To answer the original question, it appears that you can just add the LNS tag to your ship.
Do NOT however add the tag [LN], as this will make various people sad.
Follow the link in Koske's post and read the instructions there.
Personally, I wouldn't bother, I also have a Navy vessel and I don't run any tag at all, the only problem being that I am often called 'LOLLNS' or similar. :P
Kenpachi, all you have to do, as others said is type /renameme LNS-shipname .
If you do want to follow Koske's link that'd be outstanding as well, I'm glad to see that you want your ship's name to make more sense and be taken in an RP context rather than be like some of the folks who fly around in huge ships with...silly names.
It shows that you're trying to be unlike some of the other indies in Liberty, and that's a cool thing. 'Course, changing the shipname is just a part of separating yourself from the proverbial 'herd'.
Anyway, hope flying in Liberty works out for you, if you ever see me in game feel free to try and start some RP up.
Behind LNS tag can hide well educated RP person that knows what is his job, I'm always happy to see cool RP player commanding the big vessel "Battleship" or anyother capital vessel. I've find some time to make this post and actually do my angel work on forums.
When you chose to create battleship or as I said anyother capital vessel, you should think like this: 1.Ship must be created somewhere, 2. Someone must command the big vessel, 3.Crew members should be mentioned.
1. Basic is that most of the ships are created at Norfolk shipyard, if you have imagination you can write creation story in this section about your ship: Click me!, example how you should create your ship history can be found here: Click me!
2. When you choose your mighty captains name you can start with his biography, that can be started here: Click me! Now you know that there is good start for you. Biography depends only on your will but recommended fields should be (Personal life before career, early life, career life), you should RP emotions and anything you can think of. Best example of character RP can be found here: Click me!
3. This part depends only on you, if you are feeling that someone shoud me mentioned do so... it will gain you bonuses in space for your cool RP.
When all three fields are settled now you are ready to undock your brand new ship in space and defend your home space, be aware not to shoot on everything that is moving... be fair player and do not shoot on single fighter with capital ship.
LNS tag - Will mark you as Liberty Navy Ship, you'll meet many of those in space and your adventure can start.
LNS tag can be set in few seconds by using the server console and server command: /renameme "ShipName" - it will cost two millions sirius credits.

Put that LNS on your ship and show people that you can do better than LOLLNS. :rtfm:
