This topic has been brought up numerous times, but with the gimmickry added in the latest patch I think it deserves more attention around this time.
As we approach more and more towards a MMO styled game here, by adding these rather extensive money and time sinks, I think it's time to get rid of this 'server restart farming' that's been around for ever. Not only it's fair, but it would also stop all the ooRP foolishness involved in wreck hunting. People should be able to choose when they want to waste their time on acquiring a certain rare weapon, commodity or any sort of item. That can be done the old fashioned way by adding very rare drops on NPCs. But even that's not a very good solution, since NPCs are mostly disabled during peak times, when most people have the time for it. That can be fixed by adding these drops to missions, which obviously leads to the next option: a new set of 'boss' missions which would be hard enough so they'd have to be done in groups which would have a certain drop rate on rare items, depending on their difficulty. Of course, the last way to implement this is through the new crafting system.
A combination of all three options would bring alternative ways of obtaining such items.

Something along these lines is being planned - we're just not quite up to that point yet. Bugs before new features and all that...

Come on, the wreck hunters are fun. Especially the ones that rule lawyer after you blow up thier starflee with 10 CODEs screaming they under level, you can't shoot me.
Seriously though. I bet a certain nomad item has about 50 ships floating in space around it's drop point waiting for restart.
As far as codeweps go, certain stations could sell them - stations that players of all stripes have access to.
Nomad power cells (or whatever they're called currently) could obtainable by other means than by camping a single wreck. Plant a few more in some other out-of-the-way places, have some Nomad npc gbs and Bses drop them on occassion, etc.

Ah yes, Code hunters. I used to troll them long ago. I kept ships near such sites and let someone else take the Code. Then I'd destroy them and take the Code. Funny thing was, I only stored those Codes and never to this day put them on the market or even used them. Sigh, I used to do all kinds of silly mean things to any kind of OORP activity I came across. Like I was some RP policeman (first such activity was having a bomber hidden everywhere for the sole purpose of reducing the amount of caps in a given system) but I've since come to acknowledge it's own OORPness itself long ago too. The Code harvesting and selling is an old pet peeve of mine. Switch em out of the wrecks and replace them with more appropriate RP devices/hooks that also have decent credit value when sold to the proper organization.
