Update 5 problem

4.86 downloaded just fine; updates 1-4, too. I was able to run the game with no problem after each. When the auto update option for update 5 appeared, I downloaded that, too. When it was done and was extracted, it gave the usual "click OK to launch discovery freelancer" option, but nothing happened. I restarted my computer and tried to run thru the start menu shortcut, but somehow the exe file had been dissociated from the shortcut. I looked for the discovery freelancer exe file in the doc and settings location, but it didn't seem to be there. Could someone advise? Thanks very much!

What antivirus program are you using?

Then Antivirus and go into the Scans and Risks tab, go down to the bottom with the Exclusions / Low Risk areas and add your discovery FL exe file and your entire discovery folder to both scan exclusions and sonar exclusions and apply the changes

And DRV, don't be a jerk

But the thing is you will need the exe back before doing this, this merely prevents it from being removed
Here is a copy of the new exe to use http://filesmelt.com/dl/FreelancerApp.zip

Put that in your discovery EXE folder, then set the exclusions on Norton and you should be ok

I'm not being a jerk.. I'm simply saying for him to get something better. Norton is definitely not that good compared to others.

Not everyone has as much as a choice as to what antivirus they can put on their computers, some people do not even play on computers they own.

True. But if it can be helped, it's recommended to get another antivirus software.

In another topic Norton has been reported as thinking the Freelancer executable infected. This is a false positive. You'll have to force Norton to ignore the Freelancer executable as delivered by Disco (I think it's heuristics detection is conking out on the anticheat measures put in there). As to wether or not Norton is crap... well, let's just say I'm sticking with Avast.

Thanks very much for the advice about Norton. I think there's a bigger problem, too. I can't even find my Discovery Freelancer folder. Do I have to reinstall the whole thing? If so, do I simply make the changes to Norton beforehand, or should I do something different?

I really appreciate the help.
