Press the right mouse button, disconnect the mouse and reconnect it and it'll keep firing.
Another trick is to enter nohud mode, because your guns will lock on the same target even if something/someone topples you over. Also, when I sieged a base with a double cerb battleship in an asteroid field, I noticed that passing mobile rocks made the auto-aim aim at them. Nohud got rid of that problem as well.

Thinking about it now, theoretically if you set a key for firing you could lock it the same way as thruster, using chat window.
I have a lockable mouse pad, just hold down right click on it, lock the mouse pad, release and it keeps firing, easy. and I can look around with my mouse as long as I don't hit the fire button again.:crazy:
