Detroit Munitions Product Unveiling GSD Pylons, Variable Energy Generators, New Riot Control Weapons Line
James Sarkin stepped up to the stage at the foot of the 250-foot tall Pylon in the middle of Detroit Munition's testing range on Planet Denver. The public unveiling of the company's newest defensive products was placed at the first GSD Prototype's position in order to give a physical viewing of the new shield system first-hand by the attending Liberty media reporters and potential clients. Flanking both sides of the stage were large holographical displays.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for attending Detroit Munition's bi-annual product update. I'm proud to be holding this press release from the grounds of our testing ranges, around which you can see yourself the kind of damage our products can do."He smiled as a couple chuckles could be heard from the crowd while people glanced around at the craters, half-destroyed buildings, and blasted vehicles."We decided to hold this release on-site in order to give the public a first-hand view of the capabilities of our newest designs."At this cue, the two holographic displays beside him flashed to life, showing rotating views of Houston's TRS Arrays and the ODW-1 Vigilant on Maine.
"Some of you may be familiar with the Tactical Railgun System, or TRS, Arrays and the ODW-1 Vigilant Orbital Cannon we released last year. We're pleased to announce the TRS Arrays being built for the Navy on Planet Houston for field testing against Rheinland's fleets are nearing a hundred percent completion. Today's designs were made to supplement these defensive systems, and for many other purposes besides."The holographic displays switched to slideshows of the new modular station designs cropping up throughout populated space."Many of you are familiar with the advances in shielding technology for stations in the last few years. In the past, like planets, the few stations with shielding systems were custom built and exhorbantly expensive. New, standardized, designs were released with the new modular stations that allowed for cheap, effective shielding, and now the few stations without shielding systems are well on their way towards installing them."
"So we at Detroit Munitions saw these improvements and asked; Why should shield technology be confined to development of space only? It's no secret that colonization projects around Sirius have hit a brick wall, with little progress seen galaxy-wide, here in Liberty especially. Why is this? Well, a combination of continuous war and rampant pirate growth has made new colonies incredibly dangerous, and defense prohibitively expensive. The costs of planetary shields costs billions of credits, and many millions to keep powered. This is where we come in."
"What you see behind me is the result of years of development by our planetary defense project team. This is the first fully-developed, field-capable Ground Shield Dome, or GSD, Pylon Prototype. This is not a planet-wide shield device, though with enough pylons positioned correctly, you can extend shield coverage over an entire planet. Planet-wide shields are, as I said before, extremely expensive, and most of the time, completely unnecessary. Shielding an entire planet is not needed in order to have effective defense. Furthermore, it strains the power and energy needs of the shield's generators by having to extend it so far into space."
"Our GSD Pylons have a variable setting, allowing for domes ranging from five to 40 square miles in size. As with any shield generator, the larger the shield, the less protection it offers, but the difference between the two extremes is negligible, and highly dependent on the power generation used to power it. This brings us to the next item we'll be showcasing today."Sarkin motions towards behind the crowd, where a shorter, thicker pylon was flanked by two rectangular towers.
"During the creation and field testing for the Vigilant and TRS Arrays we ran into a roadblock when it came to power generation and compatibility with the various different forms of power supply used throughout Sirius. Through enough pre-planning and customization, the three systems can be made to work with most of the different generators available on the common market. This, however, does not mean it will be ideal. In order to maximize performance, our engineers standardizes the various generators we had used for our testing purposes, and created a powerplant of our own to power these defenses."
"Further improvement was made alongside the GSD Pylon's development. In order to maximize our product's performance, creating a reliable power generator able to use all the standard fuels around Sirius was a necessity. Making the changes needed to swap between these fuel sources is easy and cheap. The equipment needed to make that customization comes with every structure. Given the structure's features, we've named it a Variable Energy Generator. Today's performance will be powered by Plutonium from the Okinawa system."
"In a few moments, the we will power up the shield dome to give you all a first-hand look at its operation. I will remain on stage to take questions regarding these products and any other topics concerning Detroit Munitions. Meanwhile, our Chief Technology Officer, Lionel Luthstrom, and our Chief Financial Officer, Thomas Brown, will be amongst the crowd to answer questions more specific to their areas of expertise. Furthermore, showcases of our new riot control gear is available for view throughout the observation area. These we won't demonstrate first-hand of course."James chuckled as the whirring sound of the Pylon powering up grew in the background.
