-Miss we lost our main Engine. The reactor room is on flames. yelled eng. Brad Watson on the comlink
-Kill the cruise engine and shoot down the weapon systems. dr. Danath Drakon responded.
-But miss, the nomads... They are still behind us.
-Do as I say Brad!
-Understood miss! Boys, kill the engines!
-Good! Now, reroute all the power to the reactor room. I want that engine to be frozen.
-Rerouting energy to the reactor cooling systems. I hope it will work, I want to get back to my wife...
The Order Civilian freighter The Savoiard was drifting in to space, with all the engines killed and with no
weapon operational. Five nomad bombers where chasing the Savoiard.
-Miss Drakon, the cooling system won't respond to the remote commands. The circuits, miss, I believe the heat melt them down. yelled Watson in desperation. Miss, what do we do? Miss, do you copy?
The circuits'¦
For a brief period silence have settled aboard the Savoiard. The crew members where watching how the nomads where getting closing in on their location while, in the living quarters, civilians where spending their
last moment with their families, or with pictures of their families. The silence was somehow dark. The Savoiard was a civilian vessel. None of it's crew members where trained in combat, none of the civilians on the ship where trained to face death. Still, the strength and the ferocity of their enemy was sowing a fear, so strong, in the hearts of the civilians, that they where not even capable to panic anymore. Everyone stood still, in a dark silence, waiting like lambs to be slaughtered.
The silence was broken by dr. Danath:
-Watson, what is the radiation level in the reactor room?
-Forty percent and rising.
-Watson, get to the command deck as soon as possible. I'm leaving you in charge.
-Miss, you are not going to the reactor room! The radiation level is to high, the radiation suits won't give you enough protection.
-That was an order Watson!
-Miss...
-To all crew members, Mr Watson will lead the evacuation from now on. this was Danath's last words aboard
the Savoiard. She went straight to the emergency headquarters and suited herself in a radiation armor. While she was equipping the armor she stood still for a while, staring at a picture of her fiance. With care, she placed the small photo in her suit, than she rushed to the reactor room.
Meanwhile the nomad bombers where closing in on the Savoiard and in a matter of seconds the ship was torn apart by the nomad projectiles. At first, there where screams, panicked civilians, burned bodies the deaths of the beloved ones. It all ended up in less than thirty seconds.
Only one person was left alive, Danath Drakon, the commanding officer of the Savoirad was drifting in to space in a radiation suit. She was helpless and forced to watch how her ship along with her crew and two thousand civilians just vanished in a few seconds.
Danath was drifting aimlessly in to the space, with enough oxygen for less than an hour. She was devastated by her loss as well as she was by the things she was yet to loose, her lover, her life. With her right hand she was gently fondling the spot in her suit where she placed the photo of her fiance.
She cried, silently, in the vast and dark Omicron Minor, while not to far, Toledo was burning...
