The GMG - Rheinland relations are quite complicated compared to the rest of Sirius, especially considering the hotly contested zone that Sigma-13 is. Now it is all easy to grasp once you get into it, but then you realise a couple of "wtf's" loitering about. Including two big ones.
So explain to me what is up with Bundschuh and GMG? Why are they hostile to each other? Realistically they shouldn't even meet each other, but I can understand how Bundschuh can sometimes go to Sigma-13 for whatever reason that does not include standing there and pirating near the NB jump hole. I've been asking around and heard a couple of different versions for this.
For example a few people told me "GMG crippled Rheinland, so the Bundschuh hate the GMG as such". This is a reason that makes completely no sense to me.
Firstly because the 80 years war happened before the popular revolution and the Bundschuh are staunchly opposed to an imperial Rheinland government. Secondly, the war was incited by Rheinland. The GMG defended themselves, it is Rheinland's fault in the first place that they suffered a fail this big. Now if the Bundschuh were Xenos I can understand how that could be a valid reason to fight GMG anyways, however the Bundies are academics. Surely they would've known their history?
Another reason I heard is that it's because "GMG is hostile to Rheinland" which is a load of fertiliser, since the agreement after the 80 years war stated a cease fire. The only reason the NPCs are hostile is to underline the point of the agreement: that neither side will breach each other's space. As you can see this doesn't happen, no NPCs are fighting, no Rheinland forces are in S-13 as well as no GMG forces are in New Berlin or Frankfurt. Basing diplomacy purely on NPC relations in this case is... dumb.
The other "wtf" is GMG - ALG relations. They are both hostile, yet they share the same system. The Rheinland Military is forbidden to enter, the GMG has superior power over the ALG, the GMG could sweep them out of the system if they were at war. The only explanation why that doesn't happen is that the GMG has no hostile intent towards ALG, and the NPC relations are completely screwed up in this case.
Which I believe they are, considering how Helgoland is constantly firing at the GMG trade lane right next to it.
One thing I heard is that ALG and Kruger are pretty much the same company, though I have no idea how true that is. Can someone confirm that? It sounds a bit drastic, if ALG and Kruger worked together I can see how the GMG - Rheinland war would soon be restarted. The Rheinland government would not let that happen.
What do you guys think? I think this oughta be mended or made more clear for the next version, since right now it's just one big mess.
hm. Well good that you brought it up. Now As it was pointed out quite often, the ALG-GMG relations don't make any sense. They should be neutral as the stereotype "everything thats rheinland hates GMG" doesn't work anymore as more than 100 years have passed.
So I agree, that BU and ALG should be neutral to GMG. Although I have to say that those hostilities limited my BU char in a positive way, As I had to stay at the NB-JH which is rather bumpy but the best RP for a BU to be and not asking for donations at naha.
However, I will check out some ALG rumors. Maybe there is a reason for all those problems.

On topic, GMG relations overall would need an overhaul.
