I was so confused in California last day, with my old BHG char. Known pirate ID-ed ships were white to me and some green freelancer was shooting at me by in-game contract. LN guard authorities were red to me. Than a mercs group came in, in all colors. I was just dodging around, trying to read all the RP and figure out who will shoot me. So I left.
What you guys (and girls) think of that:
1. Just indie Freelancer and Mercenary ID-d chars can buy all the bribes.
2. ALL official faction members must be affected by RP affiliation template made by their leader. Factions leaders mutually RP and agree about who are friends of their faction and who are not. It means: when you tag your ship, you will be green to ones that are green to your faction. And red to reds. And all faction members are affiliated in a same way.
3. If someone keeps shooting at you, he becomes red too. Stupid NPC can do it nice, so I want it too.
Possible benefits:
One day we can have fog-of-war chat list, if devs can support it. Like this, maybe:
- faction members and faction friends are listed sirius-wide
- neutral faction members are listed just in the system you are currently in
- hostile faction members are hidden, but listed to all members of your group when detected by radar
Indies could be listed in a same way, or maybe different, according to their wishes and their RP. If they give to community, community will give back.
While I do actually like this idea, I'm not sure if it's possible from a game mechanics standpoint. Plus, I'm sure someone would have a problem with it because it means the NPCs that are SUPPOSED to shoot at them actually would.
I do like the first part, fog of war however, not so much. With a small population like what we've got, alot of places are empty, when you see alot of ships in a certain system, what do you do? Log whats near it and investigate, this creates action, excitement, etc. This has proved over the last few days every time we so much as enter Zeta to prod The Aether, EVERYONE logs and stuff happens. Even if your side loses, you did something.

True. It's fun. Unfortunately, it gives us overloaded major battles that:
a) gives fps to low to enjoy to all in that system, so some players better go home. Like me. Not so fun.
b) makes "ion-storms" in all other systems
I push idea of making events more often in all factions I am in, but no luck so far...

Sorry, I wasn't aware someone uses FL to find people and chat with them. Me and my friends use other applications for that. FL chat we use just to exchange battle info, scout enemy, make plans and groups...
Is there more like you? How many of you are chating in FL, please?
