Greetings all. I've been working with Zelot on creating the Farmer's guard system.
I've run into some trouble. I'm attempting to create either a very small mod that has the exact copy-paste coordinates of all objects, plus the stuff I intend to put in it, or simply a modded Disco version with my additions. The purpose is to allow people in the AFA to fly around in their new system and give feedback before the final submission. I wouldn't be handing out a copy to anybody, just those in the AFA.
I've noticed that even though I've copied the System folder's relevant data and the references in universe.ini, that I still need some data from the Discover.dll. Is there any way to read the dll other than learning Hex editing?
Or is that file top-secret?
"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."
You can add the text directly into the .ini file (or where ever, I don't do systems) in their raw xml format.
As for how to get feedback, have everyone concerned install a second "EDITING" copy into FLMM and add it to the FLMM directories, it should be copied over when you activate the edited copy. Just make sure they start the clean copy of Disco before they go back to the on-line RP'ing, made this mistake once before, crashed the server about 5 times before I realised that it was my fault.
That..was..you? *grabs a pitchfork and chases Tortured around the room*

If your speaking about the base names, infocards, asteroid field names, etc. you add that in with FLEd-ids.. That can edit it directly into the .dll. And yes, there are some programs that can make reading .dll possible, I have one, but there is a LOT of stuff in that .dll file that you don't want to sift through.
First, tell me exactly what it is that you need and what the problem is in making your own version.
When I did mine, I made a complete Disco copy, then edited that copy from the start. Makes it a LOT easier when doing this. However, for that .dll you'll need to reenter all the information with FLEd-ids into the Disco copy if you want it to show up. After that you'd just activate the copy as you would the normal Disco mod and test it via LAN or Open SP.

As Dab says, according to the forum join time, I'm a bit longer in the tooth. I had an extended absence as I concentrated on my studies as Uni over the last wee while.
Anyway, before this spirals down into what is globally known as a flame-war. Back on topic. Is there anything else that we can help you with Lucend?
I could definately use FLEd-ids to edit Discovery itself, but what I wanted to do was to copy JUST Tau-42 into a fresh mod that I could easily upload somewhere and allow people to test out. The advantage I'm looking for is file size.
If I do just copy the System inis and the relevant data from universe.ini (as well as modifying OpenSP to start me on Saga Station), I can start the game on the deck of the station, but if I try to launch, FL crashes. I'm assuming I need the infocard names and what not from the DLL.
I think I'll just use FLEd-id. Thanks Dab.
Edited to add: thanks Tortured. If I have anything else I'll come here now. You guys are awesome.
