I am generating data to update the wiki and am looking for some ideas and input on how to make the information useful and accessible.
At the moment, each piece of equipment has its own page, and then there are different topics that provide lists of equipment for you to look at and compare. There are lists for each hard-point type, and a few other lists of equipment type (such as fighter missiles, or capital ship forward guns). You might see the same piece of equipment listed more than once, but each link goes to the same (single) page for that item. There's no cost in having lists and we should make as many of them as we feel useful. What I am looking for is, what sort of lists would be useful and why?
Some of these pages are dated and are no longer useful in 4.86. For example, the lists of capital ship forward guns are pretty much useless for outfitting a ship, since you can only use the forward gun(s) that fit your ship, and there is usually only one of those. What's the point of having a list when there is only one viable option? Similar with lists of capital ship missile turrets, there are only 1-2 (including basics) that can be used, having a list of 10 faction turrets is pointless. Some of this stuff is leftover from 4.85 when it was possible to mix hard-points a little more than it is now but it is utterly pointless in 4.86 except as lists of ~everything that fits on hp_gun_special_8 slot, and even that is questinable when the equipment cant be fired or used by all of the ships.
Something that would be useful under the new model, is a list of usable equipment for each faction ship, with technerf percentages, linked from faction ID. EG, Bounty Hunters Guild ID can use these ships, which can use these guns, at these penalties, etc. That will have to wait until I get around to doing faction pages, but its an example of how the data can be represented in a useful way.
Another thing I am looking at, but dont have designed yet, is making individual columns show/hide so that you can build your own comparison, but the rows will not be very dynamic, so the lists will still need to be premade.
Anybody have any suggestions or comments on this stuff, post em up
I remember there were comments/rating of ships by players on the wiki, now there are non but maybe if there could be something like that done that would be nice.

As for me: I'm looking how the weapons are balanced to each other. Are there factions, which have only weak weapons and are there those with many strong weapons? How is my faction compared to the others?
I do like the idea of a faction list with technerf, but would see it as too complicated to create. There are a lot of "possible" combinations. Plus: the information must rely on the techtable and adapt changes there quite fast. The old table might be less user-friendly, but is more robust to overall changes.
If the site shall be helpful it must represent the desired combination dynamically. A Bounty Hunter with a Liberty Ship and Bretonian weapons? Or a BH Ship and IMG and Liberty weapons? Or a Bretonian Ship with BH weapons? The site should clarify then if its 81% or 90% energy core. Can a wiki do this? Where are the limits?
In general I really would appreciate a program, where I can start with a specific ship/weapon/ID and the program dynamically adjusts the remaining possibilites in an descending order (depending on technerf). After I made my second choice it gets again "updated" on the by then unused option. And there is of course always a number, which shows the actual penalty of the chosen combination.
It would give easy answers on questions like:
I want to use this ship and this weapon - which ID is best?
I am a XY - which weapons/ships can I use?
If I mount this weapon - how high will my penalty be?
...
If you really can do this within the wiki, I would be happy.
