I think it would be very useful if the freelancer game could have a universal clock with "star date" in it. This way everyone would be able to run on the same time frame, aka the in game time would be the same for everyone playing no matter their time zone. I think this would be incredibly helpful because it would allow for better timing of role play events, let people set meet times, and generally add greatly to the game play for something that i think shouldnt be too hard to set up. Now while i say it shouldn't be too hard I have little experience in modding games and don't really know. The clock might be displayed in one of the game menus or float on screen. Hope you like this idea!
I'm a WoW player, and very used to saying "Meet me here at X server time" - everyone knows what server time is so everyone is on the same track.
Here it's more difficult to arrange meetings over the forums, because everyone is using their own time zones.
Another Thought...
It might aid the admins some in violation reports. If you get a screenshot with the time shown, they can probably track stuff going on in the server's chat logs / files at that point in time, allowing them to see entire conversations rather than just snippets from screenshots.

We need this. Badly. Also, figure out how to set it to Sirius time, so the format would be, for example, 0908-6-3-816. (9:08 AM, June 3, 816 AAS)

Good idea, but, we'll lock it at GMT, and we already are in GMT, just need to tell the others what your time zone is, and, then, calculate (simple, I guess) which time this will be for you...
In JG, we have a Time zone thread, with anybody's GMT, to coordinate our guild in possible events...
<-- My time zone is here
OK for gentle RP, OK for gentle PvP too. What do you prefer ?
Hurk hurk hurk...

Exactly. We need to have it set to MajkP's zone in an FL format.

Would give some more realism to Discovery when you can say "Meet me at X star date". Log entries would be improved also as you can orient to a central time.
