Hi! I've been a long-term avid Freelancer player on my LAN... usually we pick a well-reviewed mod (that last big ones were 'Next Generation' and 'Rebalance'. Both lacking flor various reasons. So, we've switched to the newest Discovery. (Really, the only things I miss are the extra equipment types (capacitors, etc) and of course, all the Bab-5 stuff.) But we (my LAN friend and I) decided this is the best one, and sticking with it.

All that being said, the thought has occured to us, why don't we join Discovery's RP server? Seems like something of a no-brainer, actually. However, when attempting to do so (more than once), I lasted for about 5 seconds before the server booted me (as I was launching from Manhattan), saying 'lost connection to server'.

Is this because there are too many people on already? Or perhaps i live in such an area that any connection from here to there is spotty at best. In any case, it seems like joining you all on the server isn't going to happen.

The reason for this post, if A) to see if there's anything I'm doing obviously wrong, that would fix things, and B) to just toss out kudos to the mods creator(s). Seriously, you guys SHOULD be the development team making Freelancer 2.

I look forward to 4.85 with avid, shivering antici........ PATION!

More information would be useful, to help you with your problem. Your system specs, internet speed, type of internet. Also, are you running any firewalls?

There's always the slight chance that the server may have just happened to crash as you logged on.

okay, I'm running a home-built AMD64, Windows XP Pro, 3GB of RAM, and an nVidia 6800.

MY cablemodem (comcast) hooks directly into my router, and I have successfully connected to other net games in the past. Maybe it was just a server hiccup at the time, so I'll keep trying, anyway.

Thanks for the quick replies, btw. (collectively) you seem like an awfully decent bunch of blokes to play with. Hopefully I'll get it to work.

Oh, and I'm in Michagn, if that has anything to do with it.

another login attempt- I got to the main Manhattan screen, as soon as I switched to the equipment dealer to get a better gun on my newbie ship, and the screen went black with a 'this operation is talking longer than expected' message. Then, a few moments later, 'the connection to the server has been lost'.

Any suggestions? I guess I'll go back to playing in my own empty universe with my LAN friend, then. :(

Try pinging the server IP and see what comes out of that.
