Missiles, and never chase. ALWAYS hit X and reverse like a pro. You have range on all cruisers in the game, use it.
Bships that chase are the reason they /always/ lose fights. Range, pin the enemy into manuvears they don't want (like flying past you to 'kite' more) and most of all, missile bombardment at range. They will have to focus on the missile avoidance or get WRECKED.
If you really feel the need to chase a cruiser in a battleship - setup your primaries/cerbs is such a way that you can chain fire them. And don't aim at the targeting reticule.
Best setup against cruisers consists in full cerberus and primaries + as many battleship seccondaries as possible
There are some aiming tricks that if you master, you will have no problems against very skilled cruiser pilots in medium sized cruiser but don't expect to beat a skilled corvo, hatchet or BHG destroyer.
