I am getting somewhat desperate. Seems like solely thanks to android os my data consumption is simply ridiculous. 1.15 gigs in last 10 days and there was a sudden peek at the begging of the month when in fist two day the os downloaded roughly 700mbs. I am no PC guru but this seems horribly wrong. Any help please? Oh and, I have all synchs off and Google data backup off as well.
maybe you got a virus or a faulty app of some sort installed. Have you tried installing an app to monitor bandwith usage to make sure android itself is the culprit? I'm no expert but perhaps there are apps that will give you info on which specific processeses that take up all that bandwith. those numbers you are listing are extremely high. I couldn't get near that even if my phone was the only device with internet access in my house.
You can try reverting the phone completely to manufacturer standard and then update it to whatever version of android you are running. I've had a couple of different version android phones for some time, and I had a lot of odd behaviour at times (system stalls, apps crashing) and doing a complete reset and re-update fixed things temporarily.
Turn off auto updating of apps via the play store and also be sure to set your data limit through the OS if possible. You can also download an app to turn your data off if need be.
Lastly, manually turn the data off in the wireless settings. Use only wifi. Enable data only if needed.
It will turn off data streams when the phone is on sleep mode and just ask every once in a while if there's something to change.
Also thanks to this app my phone generally lasts 1,60x longer according to the app, although I'm sure it's correct.
