Can the Liberty Police/Navy engage a ship if it is a corsair even if the corsair isn't caught doing anything wrong? Just wondering, because even if the police know someones in a gang, but don't have any evidence of laws broken, they can't do anything about it?

yep if you are in anything but a transport. then they have to make a demand before killing you, i believe.

also sairs that arent smuggling or escorting an artifact smuggler shouldnt be in liberty to begin with.

I was in Liberty on a smuggling job, but was on my way back after I delivered and then was stopped

if you were in a trade ship, they should have made a demand before shooting:

Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand, in system or local chat, and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt" is not a demand. You must say more than this to ask a ship to stop however you may destroy them if they attempt escape.

I was in a Freighter, if that counts. Just wondering what the justification is for killing a ship even without evidence of it doing any mischief.

well then they should have made a demand. some players have itchy trigger fingers... just like some real-life coppers don't mind a bit of unnecessary brutality if and when they can get away with it.

i think in-rp your legal status is non-existent, you being a corsair and all, so i don't think you can really file a complaint or expect anymore from most lawfuls out there. not all would shoot you though, there are those who would just give you a slap on the wrist (for being a corsair) and escort you out of liberty space, but these players are rare. expect the "red is dead" mantra to be in effect in liberty.

Alright thanks for the explanation, I'll be a bit more stealthy next time I'm in Liberty.
