i'm sorry but i would quit in an instant if i had to trade or mine or whatever all week just to keep my ship equiped for one fight on the weekend.
i'm a husband and a father first. i refuse to play a game like what is being described here. i can't justify being in a faction due to my limited play time so i don't join them, therefore i'm an indie player. with next to no outside income i'd be forced to quit playing.
sure this would make everything more realistic/challenging/rp'ish but it'd only be for those who have the hours needed to put into it and i dare say there isn't enough of those people in the community to justify it.
Well it would seem you are all in favour of this ... not! ;-)
I still would like to have some kind of extra consequences from going into battle.
Bots/bats are just a little too easy to buy...even for indies with apparently no income??
I think having no income at all is an accomplishment in itself?! Well done...
I myself shoot enemy NPCs when Im low on cash...glad you are sticking to a non-capitalist approach...
Yes, it would be really interesting if, when you lost a weaon, you really lost it.
You say that after 20-30 tough fights, a fighter may lose a weapon. And most times the bombers only lose CM/Mine deployer. False.
In every fight i have take part in with eddie with missiles, all bombers were stripped out of EVERYTHING, from codies, to shield, and of course supernova. And that before they ran out of botts. Which is why missiles are so good support weapon. Two xeno bombers and a freighter engaged eddie. The freighter lost most if not all of the turrets, almost lost the shield, lost mine deployer, and ran. The two bombers ran when they had been stripped of all equipment. One of them even docked while i was chasing instead of sitting still as most people does (which, if you can afford such a lose, is much better RP than just what i most commonly saw... someone saying over comms "//kill me, i lost all").
Against fighters its not that bad, but they still lose a good 50% of their weapons before dying by missiles.
The bomber i mentioned lost aproximately 7M of supernova, 1M of weapons, thruster+nuke another.. 1M was it? T10 shield.. i dont remember. Well, that's 9-10 millions of loses in a single unsuccessful fight. And, if you multiply that x2 because there were two bombers, 20 millions loss. And the transport, add another 2-3 millions. In one fight.
How about when you get destroyed ... you return to flying a starflea. But instead of having no money ... the insurance company places 75% of the value of the ship and equipment you had when you were destroyed in your bank.
This would replace that 4 hour no re-engagement rule since you'd kinda have to go through the process of buying and equipping your ship all over again. And you'd have to do a few missions or run some cargo to gain the 25% you need to get the same setup you had before (unless of course you already had the 25% value already before you got the insurance money).
#1 - this is more realistic
#2 - alleviates the concern for those who like to re-engage despite the rules (translate to less need for violation reports)
#3 - forces PVP whores to role play rather than just kill kill kill
#4 - when someone is about to die ... they'll likely try to escape than lose their ship
#5 - traders would be less likely to say "I'd rather die than pay" (translate to more role play among traders)
The only thing these changes will do is make people run away every time they see a red IFF, because they dont want to die and be forced to cough up millions of credits or start over in a starflea.
Maybe full weapon loss is too extreme...so I am willing to consider an alternative...
It's too easy for someone to say "kill me ... my weapons are damaged"
Perhaps like an earlier post said .... that maybe a portion of costs...say 1/10th of the actual losses is taken from the pilots credits...
So in the case of the Bomber instead of 10mil he only pays 1mil.
People should earn the right to continuously fight or have a consequence upon losing...
Instead of making it somewhat more complicated and potentially alienating a lot of people, why not just get FLHook to do something more straightforward, such as a 2 mil credit penalty each time you die? Nothing else, simply deleting 2 mil from your currently existing credits on your character.
That is hardly enough of a detriment to make people leave, to be quite honest (I wouldn't care about losing 2 million when I die, not even if it were 20 times in one day, although this would frankly never happen anyway). A trader would still make way more than they lost, but it would cause them to think twice about running and dying (since they'd lose their cargo, 20 mil and having to pay for bots/bats).
It doesn't require starting over, it really doesn't break your bank and it does give that *little* extra penalty for being killed, meaning that people will be that slightly more cautious before rushing into PvP.
