I see the LSF as overt operatives. That is to say that we do see them in and around Liberty, occasionally busting a smuggler or helping out when the other more visible law enforcement is busy elsewhere. I don't see them much in other systems do to the hole filling. If I were to join the LSF, I'd expect that my time would be spent more than likely in the Liberty Core, but I'd polly not be doing a whole lot of chatting in the open channels. I believe they should have a sort of standoffish tendancy. Not just hanging out infront of manhatten. In order for them to exercise their RP, there has to be a threat which they can respond to. Lacking this, they are relegated to the more overt police work. Anyway that is what I have seen.
Being in Liberty they are obviously going to come under a lot of unwarranted scrutiny. I have yet to see a thread initiated just to invite commentary on the BPA's RP.
This should be in LSF feedback thread.
"If I was...." Perhaps you ought to consider joining up.

the LSF should be policing trade routes in liberty and stopping pirates/smugglers

spending their time in z21/alaska or trying to sneak into foreign houses or order space.
..Does not.
I think we should do a bit of both. Spending ALL our time being a nuisance to the Order/foreigners would be excessive.
Well then, you should be part of a different faction.
Nothing in the single player campaign hinted at the LSF being top secret military agents, or even spying on other houses. They were investigative police officers, nothing more.
Juni even said that only the highest ranking members of the LSF and navy were allowed in alaska, yet somehow every single LSF player around is getting into the system.
Every mission you did for the LSF in the campaign revolved around stopping smugglers and routing out pirate/criminal groups - not sneaking into other houses or developing military technology.
Officially, I think the LSF are supposed to be a more competent and well-equipped version of the LPI, with the resources to take on major operations (like taking out that rogue base a few missions into the singleplayer campaign). Think of them like FBI/Swat, not foreign military affairs agents.

I agree that LSF is under A LOT of scrutiny, and I AM NOT bringing it up in here. I have no opinion either way.
I am going to post in the LSF feedback thread soon.
I may consider joining the LSF to see the two sides of the coin, first hand experience is better than third party opinions. I may join during summer, I working on some stuff and my Order character.

I completely agree. Many people's assumption that they are essentially like secret CIA agents seems to have no base from the Freelancer story line (at least from my POV). I;d say they're more like a mix of FBI/NSA. Basically the CIA but for internal matters also with a bit of extra teeth if theres something too big for the LPI but not big enough for the Navy.
You all bring up some valid points, and suggestions. You don't see us outside liberty, because we use non =LSF= tagged ships, which have been working great so far.
I do plan on restricting recruitment to only the "best of the best", and direct who is not fit for the job, to the SA and LPI.
As for what we "should" be doing, I believe what we do now ( a mix of everything) is fine, maybe trimming down military operations. Remember theres also the LSF Feedback thread if you have any suggestions
Soo... on the one hand people are saying we shouldn't be seen much (i'm sure i could qoute that from someone), and on the other we should be busting contraband traders.
Well, we could do both, if you give us cloaking devices..
I like what we do now. We're flexible, and can help out the Navy and LPI. Since we dont have 'foreign military affairs agents' in Vanilla, why can't we fill in the gap?

Secrecy, yet presence to get those smugglers. I agree this is a very tricky thing. If your not there, smugglers lol all the way to Manhattan, yet if your there in force, it kind of not represents the secrecy. Hmmm, this is a tough one.
If LPI or Navy are near Manhattan, stay secretive and cunning like ninja, if no aid is around, guard Manhattan with a fighter or two tops.
I've always been of the opinion that the LSF does everything that the Navy and regular military doesn't. They should serve as a CIA, FBI, NSA and NRO all rolled into one. This gives them oodles of freedom outside of Liberty, and they use it-just, as Sniper said, not on tagged characters, because that would be a bit of a giveaway, now wouldn't it...honestly, if it were me, I'd have them fly around Liberty in unmarked civilian ships and transports, and when they see something going down they bring out the Guardians and Gunboats, sort of like an actual FBI raid.
