Is it just me, ( probably ) or do you think that some pirates should actually work for a living instead of sitting 3 or 4 k away from a trader shouting " stop or you die " and expect that trader just to stop and be taxed ? or do you think that if the pirate says " stop or you die " ( repeating myself, i know ! ) he should at least follow it up with a cruise disrupter to do the actual stopping ?
I fly a trader with no countermeasure mounted and im sure that if i get disrupted by a pirate i will stop and pay the tax in due coarse. Same if im in a trade lane and i get bumped out by a pirate i will pay the tax ( only good rp ) or , indeed, been had buy a very good trap ( courtesy of the OPG, very nicely done guys ) i will pay the tax.
BUT, i will run if ordered to stop from a distance. Now i know that ive read elswhere in the forums that if you dont stop when caught by a pirate he has every right to kill you, no questions asked when, and if,he catches up ( and they usually do:)) but to told to stop from a distance and then told " you will die " when you dont, is a pretty poor show from a pirate i think because in my opinion i dont think i was caught at all, just spotted on his scanner. C,mon you pirates, if your gonna be one at least work a bit for your money. I enjoy the chase when i see a pirate on my scanner and will try to avoid him if i can and its very seldom i get away from them but sometimes i do get a bit riled when this happens. If he had caught me and then blew me out of the sky who is in the wrong ? me for not stopping because i didnt think i was caught or him ?
Now before anyone jumps in with " you should hire escorts then " i do most of the time, but sometimes its exciting to do trade runs on your lonesome. And lets face it, even with escorts a pirate in a big gunboat with uber shields and weps hasn't got much to worry about has he?
My apologies for rambling on a bit here but my wife, 3 kids, 2 cats, 1 hamster and the rabbit are giving me a headache :D
Fly safe now
If I am a pirate and I see you 3k away I fire a CD and order you to halt. If you do, I may or may not do hull damage, depending on previous interactions with you and how many people have F1ed on me that day.
If you don't I will make my demand, chase you down, and do hull damage till you die or pay me.
How is that being lazy?
If you get away, kudos to you. If you don't, you're in trouble.
Edit: if I make my demand and you refuse to pay, I can kill you. Without a demand I can't kill you but I can do 99.999999% damage to you.
Your right, thats not lazy. lazy is if you dont fire the cd but expect me to stop anyway. Im sorry if i didnt explain it right, me bad. And im not saying all pirates are. Just some :D
Yeah, I'm the kind of lazy pirate... and sometimes i get lucky, today i got 5M at 5k without CD's when i only asked for 1M... hell, traders pirate themselves these days...

Frankly it's worth a try if you're a little too far away, but don't expect it to work. But yes you should at least make some effort even if you are at a istance and might not catch up.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.
Fair enough, i can understand giving it a try but what happens if he does catch up and stop you?
Does he then have the right to say " now you die " then blow you out of the sky ? or should it be " right then, lets try that again " and probably raise the tax :D
Its really so i know for any time this happens again.Ounce i know i can accept it then go and cry in a corner, alone, cold and feeling unloved :D
According to the rules they only have to make the demand once. If you ignore them, run away or whatever, but do not pay up, they can then proceed to blow you up once they catch you after having made the demand once. Normally I make it two or three times just to be sure, but after that its *boom* time to die.

"Halt" or "stop" does not constitute an act of piracy by itself, and if that is all a pirate states before destroying someone, then the pirate has violated the server rules and should be reported.
I have a couple of traders myself, and if the pirate is unable to put me into a situation where I either have to pay or get blown up, then I don't pay. When they tell me to stop from outside cruise disruptor range, I just laugh all the way to my destination.
I had a Super Heavy Fighter (no tag, I don't recall the ID) order my Junker Pirate Transport to halt a couple of days ago. I asked him why, he just told me to stop and then he would tell me. So I reached my destination, sold my goods, launched and there he was. He told me to stop again. I'm in the act of turning around to face him from a standstill when he attacks me. I suppose by now some other Junker has tractored in his escape pod and sent him on his merry way. I still don't know what the guy wanted.
