How do bounty hunters act towards Privateers?

So, simple enough question, what kind of stance do bounty hunters have towards government supported privateers (namely QCP and the like).

I ask because their letters of marquee mean they are *technically* legit. But that doesnt change the unlawful "privateering" they engage in.

Now correct me if I am wrong if they are more of a military faction here in discovery but I did take it that they do some "pirating" on the side against enemy trade factions.

And if this question has no definite answer, what's your opinion on the matter?

I'd say that the BHG would rather not antagonize the houses by attacking their privateers. I don't think that any house would respond too kindly to attacks on their pilots.

I'd say it is more than umprobable that the Imperial Council hire the BH Guild for hunting Privateers. But, if they do, some Bounty Hunters, attracted by rewards only, can choose to work for Kusari and hunt Privateers.

We are only talking about Bretonian Privateers and specificaly QCP. IMO, QCP are semi-legal as Junkers or Hogoshas. A BH will do nothing against them in regular circumstances.

I would think that the BHG would want to keep out of inter-house wars. Sure, houses might hire mercs, but the BHG probably wants to maintain its neutrality with all of the four houses.

ok, so privateers are seen as more of a war-related issue. As in, "this is between house factions, stay away"

???

That's what I would say the BHG's stance on it is.

Adamantine is right. : BH work mainly for BHG, and BH Guild will probably refuse to choose a side (if we consider the BHG as the theoric organization of the BH faction). BHG are staying away of inter-house war : the BH do the same.
Mercernaries are not bound to such neutrality.

So it would be a no in all circumstances. That will work for my characters. I never thought about Privateers issue, it is a good question Brutanus.

A good question.
BH don't "work mainly for the guild". They are the Guild. The guild is not an intergalactic police force - it hunts criminals for money. If a BH attacks you while you're privateering, he should be fulfilling a contract.S trictly speaking a BH can target anyone against whom there is a bounty posted, even unlawful bounties. BUT there is also the fact that the Guild is allied to the police forces of all houses to consider, plus no House would allow an organisation that facilitates the killing of government employees to reside within its zoi. The guild has a station in Manchester - I dont think the BAF Admiralty would want it there much longer if privateers were targetted by the guild. So imho BHers should not take contracts against licensed privateers; hire a merc instead.

we had the discussion before - if hired, the BHG can hunt them - and if the privateers were together with the really lawfuls of bretonia - it was said that the lawfuls would "keep a distance" and wouldn t associate themselves with the privateers. ( in doubt, the privateer is on his own )

however, its situational - a BHG wouldn t go for a privateer without being attacked or having a contract. - mind, BHGs get attacked left and right. - not a day passes that Cheshire gets shot by even people that in RP shouldn t really fire - and i only ever return fire after my shield was drained. (/ that is - unless i do have a contract )

so if a privateer attacks a BHG - the BHG will most likely fire back , but wouldn t target the QCO for example, if they hung around there, too. - if the QCO would assist the QCP though - they would become a target, too... cuase the hunter acted in self defense.

a BHG would not go for a privateer on his own though out of the described reasons - that is ... he will avoid being pulled into the political struggle between kusari and bretonia - mainly, cause its not profitable to take a side there - unless you know that you picked the winning side.

The point about the acts of a privateer being something that a government would distance itself from is a good one. Hadn't really considered that. It's possible that the Guild would have to ensure that the killing of the Privateering individual happened outside his original house.

And I sympathise fully with the walking crosshairs syndrome that every BH seems to have to endure.
