I would want to argue that the starting cash is not sufficient and it is especially true after the last update, I don't mind giving out some cash to some of the but happens that if I don't get pmmed every hour I would begin to worry that something is wrong.
Sent some cash to other chars. A lvl 89-90 champ is most likely to get asked for money. I used to be asked a lot until i drew the cash from the chars i often play.
Left most on traders though, so newcomers start talking to me when i am bored by trading anyway.
Also i sincerely doubt that most of those asking for money in Freelancer are already in the forums.
Begging for money is against server rules IIRC. And if it isn't, it is still the lowest form of scummery IMHO.
Tell the beggars to get a damn job and make their way up the wealth ladder like the rest of us. Disco ain't life real life, we have 100% employment in Sirius and it's an equal-opportunity employer... with one exception, those too lazy to get off their behinds.
But yeah like Talesin said, offloading alot of your free cash to drop your level down should discourage most of the panhandlers.
wht ive always done is, create new character, dont even bother with flying it or restarting it, set up the drawcash and thats it
theres plenty of money to be made in the game from the start and not to bad quickly either, theres a guide even to show you, and now that theres player base close by (helium/silver/penns) its can be done even quicker
when i log onto a cash character, for when/if i need to make a biggish purchase and when i get asked by some unknown "please lend me x millions", i always say, "work for it"
when i started fl, i started with the very 1st ship, did the helium runs for a good few weeks before i even entered into liberty (and soon got out)

You need 1 hour playtime to draw cash from a char.
Everyone. Quit complaining. It is NOT hard to make credits as a newcomer, not at all...
When I first started, I went and bought a rhino, and did one trade route. That was the first 10 minutes. Then I saw another new player, I gave him my profit from the first route and got him a rhino. Then the two of us flew together on trade routes, and that same day I was later flying a mammoth, and he was flying a BMM-repped and ID'd Hegemon, filling me up on ore. By the end of the day, I was ready to buy the Shire, but I waited until the next day for it.
The player who flew with me as we traded together and played the loan game is now Cibola, incredibly wealthy within the game.
But there is an even easier way. Make a rhino, go to an ore system, you don't even need any rep with your small cargo, you can fill yourself easily and go back to sell it for 2.2 million. Then you can buy a mining ship, get yourself some mining rep and ID, and head out to the nearest mining system to get 15 million for every stork you fill.
Earning credits as a new player is not hard. New players don't need any extra starting cash. In my opinion, one of the most fun parts of any game is working your way up from the bottom to the top. If new players want an extra start, they can always /restart anywhere they want, including liberty to be right back where they'd first started, with their ship, equipment, and cash value around 200k. Or even a miner or freelancer restart for even more value.
