So I've been thinking, after the Osiris was stolen, why did the navy simply stop work on them? They could have easily built others, unless all the plans were destroyed. (Which is doubtful)
Would it be too far of a stretch for a navy character to use an Osiris to simulate the navy returning and finally building another ship of that class?
Obviously server rules say no, but could there be any exceptions?
This is a far far stretch for a RP story that I'm working on but it could work better to use this "advanced liberty prototype" over the aged dreadnought.
I figure the answer will be no in all cases, considering how guarded some factions are with their capships but maybe it couldn't hurt to ask....

I tried to do so with a spyglass. Asked admin's approval. Waited TWO FRIKING MONTHS without a single answer, Finally gave up and switched it to LH, At the end we sold it. Since it sucks to get rammed by everything...
since i believe that the navy still have the designs - it would prolly be fine to fly both - the spyglass aswell as the osiris. - however, its been the developers choice not to offer them to the original faction. - so ... either the order ( or in the case of the spyglass ) have stolen not only the prototype but also killed all the developers and workers, and destroyed all the blueprints and files of the project and prolly mind wiped everyone involved - or one should be able to RP flying them.
with the other thread out ( about the BHG flying a liberty BC ) i don t think you ll get many friends then. it can easily be roleplayed to get it - but its a hostile faction that offers the ship.
Yeah, with the other thread, it seemed like a good time to post, while everyone is on the topic anyhow...
See, I think if it is RPed well it could work but it depends on the official Order faction. I'm about 99.5% sure that the awnser will be no across the board, but you never know.
Even if the answer is no, I'd love to hear some ideas on the reasons why the navy gave up the design. Its something I can incorporate into my story, maybe explaining my ship choice, which would be the dreadnought, or the liberty battlecruiser (if Jinx's new battlecruiser gets in the next version), either way I wont be getting this capship for awhile, the story is going to take its time.

Reason why I modelled the Atlantis over the Osiris a bit. In fact, its a mix of Osiris and standard dread.
On the other hand, a replacement for the actual dread might come in handy, considering its the smallest of the BS (I guess?) and considering Liberty is arguably, the most powerful (perhaps not militarly anymore) nation of Sirius...
Though I'd be adamantly against this for the obvious reason the dread is a vanilla ship after all. and is quite beautiful.
perhaps that is the reason why liberty is the only faction to have a carrier. So to have something more... their size.
They wouldnt let me use a liberty gunboat as a defected liberty officer who joined the order, I highly doubt they'll let any liberty player use an osiris.
As I interpreted it the Osiris was meant as a testbed, never meant to be mass-produced. The Liberty Dreadnought, looking at it, is really one of the best ships in its class, 'Fast and Deadliest ships in its class', in fact, according to the infocard. The Osiris is even smaller; it's probably even faster, but it can't be very well-armored at all, and it doesn't really do anything a conventional military would need that the Liberty Dreadnought can't already do; the LibDread's a better balance of agility, armor and firepower than anything else in the game, most certainly Vanilla-wise and still one of the best in Discovery's arsenal (the only real competition is the BHBS because it's so damn tiny and accurate if the pilot's good he'll never be hit and the Bretonian Battleship, for its heavier firepower, heavier armor and only somewhat wider cross-section). The Osiris does, however, possess a cloaking device and who knows what other kind of advanced toys; it was probably made with the intent of supporting these devices and not entering actual combat. Of course, the Order or any aspiring power will be happy to take the designs off of the Navy's hands, because anybody with a Battleship in the Borderworlds, period, already has a massive tactical advantage, and if it's very small and light, however poorly armored, like the Osiris, they've got a winner, as it really needs to server more as a Battlecruiser (I.E. dominating smaller ships) than anything else. The Navy doesn't need the Osiris; the Liberty Dreadnought's so fast it can still serve as a Battlecruiser and Battleship at the same time, like the American Iowa-class 'fast battleships'. The Osiris has a much purer Battlecruiser mentality, and really doesn't do anything but demonstrate its cloaking technology (and probably some kind of advanced engine, judging by the contrail)
But, theoretically, it could be done if it was extensively RPed as a testbed or a special ops ship, like I did with Fantasia way back in the day. You'd have to act like it, though, and that means no sitting around at Manhattan. Lurk in the shadows and rock fields instead.
