Yep, it's an 'old' car.
The car in question is a 1990 Nissan Pulsar Q, so that would make it 20 odd years old, I'm not too interested in being accurate as regards to how old it is.
It's proving to be a little difficult to get another motor, as the people we are dealing with, who told us they had one, have just discovered that it is very likely that the motor in question is currently on it's way to Lebanon of all places with a number of other engines.
I reckon that's one motor we aren't going to be seeing again.

No...
If there's a hole, then what happened to the part that broke off?

I like to gauge the age of the car by the odometer, not the actual date of manufacture. However, if the car was out of oil, this does bad things to the engine regardless of how old it is...

I'm guessing that it made it's way out of the engine, at some speed too by the looks of things.
I reckon the oil pump failed and a conrod got way too hot, said "that's enough" and failed, so it wasn't a case of there not being oil in the motor, just a problem with oil not getting to where it needed to be.
You can see the crankshaft in the first photo or more to the point you can see a section of the crank where a conrod *should* be.
The photo was taken a few minutes after we got the motor out, so the motor hasn't been disassembled yet.
