Dr. Baxter Gussman was a nobody in the field of Techno Archeology. He hailed from Planet Manhattan but was quickly debunked and discredited for his obscure interest. The incident of the reactivated Binary drone which killed all his understudies may have helped this take place.
From the many records Dr. Gussman poured over having to do with sentient machines. One name came up more than once and often in a negative light. The machines seemed to be a victim of "programed instinct" and misunderstanding with the denizens of the Sirius Sector.
Dr. Gussman's new project became trying to find a small and innocuous piece of a Harvester. Finding a portion of the code closest to the original FTGW the better. Also to find a bit of code not contained in a machine large enough or complex enough to get out of control.
Today was that day. From the records found Gussman knew not to attach any wireless or physical connection to any network. The intelligence was the code it self which was stored hypothetically as a EM aura with in the hardware that was in use.
As Gussman had his two cleverly programed automatons lift a portion of what looked to be an old cruiser's processor core on to his work bench. As they unpacked it and lifted a very fine silvery silt sifted from the inner working and dried old portion of what looked to organic material hung limply from some of the data connections.
After clearing the thawed organic material after its space borne freeze drying and a quick dusting of the processor Gussman hooked the processor into main power and began turning up the amps and repairing faults as they became known.
Beneath notice, finer than grains of sand the silvery dust began to pool beneath the processor.
