You can try. Battleships do not have a cruise disruptor and will not be getting any cruise disruptors. /1 and chainfiring mortars at transports will result in the admins deleting your ship in all likelihood - overly agressive heavies beware.

Rules are clear at if trader tries to run, you can kill it. So smart BS captain can block TL/JG with his ship and shoot at transports that try to cruise away from him with prims or secoundaries which is fast enough to kill while engines charging.
/l1 and rest can be useful to make a demands without worrying that trader will run while you type your demand, so its not bad at all. In fact, this is required for succesful piracy, especially with #t in it.
Traders mostly cowardly and/or ooRP'ly and noobish. They will try to run even if you CD em constantly, hoping for a bug or CM spam. Traders like that I kill without even asking if they ok with it. Its clearly within rules and realistic RP. No stopping - death.
But its not logical to pirate in a BS anyway. Even with snub support, you are slow to chase transport if it increases distance to 2k. Dual missiles might help to track and kill slow trader however. But, group piracy is more effective in transport+cover. So you can demand cargo and be sure you can grab it if killed trader.
In my opinion, cruisers shouldn't be able to pirate either. I know the rule was changed to prevent pirate/smuggler transports from trolling lawful caps, but I really would have liked to see a "cannot pirate" clause.
Pirating in a GB or bomber is easy enough, but at least a well-armored transport can put up a bit of a struggle.
What's the fun in pirating in something that can pretty much instakill a transport?
My aim really is not to go out pirating poor traders in a BS as said action would have poor returns in profit when balancing against the cost the BS itself, mine for e.g. once SMGSterlin has been paid fully equipped cost me 2 Bill =
Ship + Armour + Cloak. Yeh I coulda got it cheaper but tiz money well spent anyway putting a 2 bill piece of equipment out there for the sake of making money is a waste, but for RP its great especially when enforcing embargos on traders who belong to houses that are at war with the house my BS belongs to.
I know BS's dont have CDs but that is beside the point as I aim to use RP and my guns overwhelming firepower in a bid to try and scare the trader to stop of his own accord. Said tactic usually work when you reduce their hull to less than 50% in the space of a second .
To put it clearly, there is no longer a rule preventing capital ships from firing on transports (in refusal of demands or for being treated as war/combat target). You can uphold embargoes, house laws or for piracy as long as your ID allows it.
Pirating in a well armored GB or Bomber is best. In Cruiser, I dont recommend it, its not as fun,and traders will most likely not pay you since they can out run you. Pirating in a Battleship, might work with couple snubs and 1 or 2 boats. But otherwise, not really.
That's so lame that this is allowed now. It's unfair, and no fun. People will simply buy a capital ship, demand 10m, and pvp whore. Not like a convoy of traders could survive if there was even one fighter with a CD. :l
