Now seeing some stuff about Starship Troopers and how they loved it and all made me think. Why isn't there a thread for the Awesome Star Trek? Who here started playing freelancer because of star trek? For me I loved pretending I was in the star trek universe! Who else?
Please keep is civil but star trek is better than star wars.....
The broken [img] tag in your sig was bugging me.
So I fixed the tag but decided to leave this note here to bug you back. ~ ae
Star Trek is interesting, but Star war is still my favorite by far
Saw The Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager and all the Movies, the series was alright but I prefer the movie by far, especially Wrath of Khan, Voyage home, especially First Contact and the recent Star Trek reboot.
First contact is my favorite then right behind it is Wrath of Khan! : D The Next Generation is by far the best series compared to DS9 and Voyager. Kurk is about the same with Generation. The Star Trek reboot is awesome on its own level! Can't wait for the new one to come out!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ... all that simply translates out to is this: Once upon a time ....
In other words, it's a fairy tale. Granted, it's a detailed and fun fairy tale set in a space type setting, but it's still a fairy tale.
Space, the Final Frontier ... that right there is the key, especially for those of us who grew up in the 60's. Today, you kids (Yes, Richard, I'm doing my old man thing!) take the technology for granted - of course, we have space flight, satellites, space stations, and rockets.
Sputnik launched in 1957, Gagarin went into space in April of 1961, and during the space race, Kennedy made the speech in May of 1961 - when the cold war between the US and USSR was in full swing (and very nearly came to become a hot war shortly afterwards) -
Quote:"Finally, if we are to win the battle that is now going on around the world between freedom and tyranny, the dramatic achievements in space which occurred in recent weeks should have made clear to us all, as did the Sputnik in 1957, the impact of this adventure on the minds of men everywhere, who are attempting to make a determination of which road they should take.... I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. "
Think about when TOS (The Original Series) came out - 1966. Bay of Pigs had happened, Vietnam was heating up, and it looked like we were going to end up blowing up our planet. Here came this TV show that said, 'Hey, there's a future out there!' Not the petty differences of the planet, but the whole UNIVERSE is out there to explore.
Okay, some of the shows were, by today's standards, hokey. But think about how edgy things were then - Star Trek showed the first time a black woman kissed a white man on TV. EVER! Martin Luther King, Jr., was marching for civil rights, and here's Star Trek showing racism in it's full color with 'Let That Be Your Last Battlefield'.
And here's the thing - how many times has a TV show been cancelled and then gone into oblivion. Star Trek refuses to die because it stands for something - there IS a positive future for our planet and our people, we're not going to blow ourselves up, we're going to survive this and grow into the universe. (Well, okay, we did sort of blow ourselves up, but we were ready to go out anyway, thanks to Zefram Cochrane.)
That's why Star Trek will ALWAYS be better than Star Wars - it's part of the heritage of humanity.
Oh, and if you watch EVERYTHING Star Wars - including all the Clone Wars animated stuff - take you a little over 2 days - about 55 hours worth of video, total. To watch everything Star Trek - take you slightly more than 3 WEEKS - right at 23 days if you include the 8 hours of animated stuff. Yeah, that's right - most of Star Wars is just cartoons, while nearly ALL of Star Trek is live actors.
Star Wars sucks.... (Yeah, I went there!)
