If a Zoner is acting in the same line as a normal trader (by moving the same parts to the same place), are they not just another trader to be pirated? Are they not guilty of doing the same things as other traders? Or is it just like "Hey, I'm a Zoner, so you can't touch me?" I hope it isn't the last one, since that'd mean that I've broken the rules a couple hundred times.
I know that anything can really be RPed, but this is a rather gray area, and I'd like some clarification. I'm more of talking about those guys who won't talk to you in RP or threated you OoRP for attacking their Zoner Transport that's moving Engine Components to Cambridge or Diamonds to Kyushu. Am I wrong for trying to pirate those guys?
Thanks in advance...

[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
First, all zoners ID owner non-zoner tagged who trade this kind of thing (diamond, niobium) can be treated like a simple trader (they just try to protect them from pirates)
Then, a zoner got his neutrality only from the services he gave to everyone, so send commodities (like food) to Crete or Malta, and get their pass in exchange while pirating activities.
If they don't, it's a try to pass through pirate activities
I treat all Zoners the same as normal traders, unless they are on the Zoner Council Roster.. Other than that, they get the same treatment. Most of them are even more OORP than the tagless traders. They think Zoner ID is some sort of shield against all, then they complain and threaten to sanction you when you pirate them..
My zoner who is on the council, does trade. Is it a free neutrality ticket? no way.
A pirate has every right to demand stuff from me, but I'll be quick to remind him about how his faction depends on Zoners for something, and how it might be a shame to lose that. Example, Xenos attack a zoner transport, suddenly they aren't allowed on freeports to buy supplies.. the pirate that did it will probably be killed by the other xenos.
I like the idea of a pirate's actions having consequences. Nothing happens when a generic trader is pirated, because theres no one to react. Now if a Faction ship gets pirated, the faction can react, like placing bounties, hiring more escorts etc... To me the Zoner political situation intruiges me, because there are consequences for the pirate and me, if he chooses to continue the piracy act.
Usually through RP one can deal with things and negotiate. One pirate I ended up giving some CD ammo to. Another, I gave him some bots and bats. So technically, he wasn't pirating me, and we can mutually benefit. He get something he can use, and I get a favour with his people. Neither is harmed too much either.

Ah the perennial Zoner question, to pirate or not to pirate? Well the answer is every bit as complicated as mb52 has made out. With my LR I tend to ask for voluntary donations, same as I do with Junkers. I don't pirate either of thsoe two factions and I let them set the price, after all it is a donation.
But my Xeno is different, I'll take time to patiently explain to the Zoner why I'd prefer him to find a different place to drop his cargo, the Zoner is going to get Xeno dogma until either he's bored and turns around or he ignores me and carries on reagrdless. If he carries on I make a habit of seeing if he's on the Zoner registry, if not then the next time I see him he's toast. No comebacks on me that way. If he is then I let it slide and try to figure out a way to stop him without getting caught.
Zoners aren't immune to those of us with a cause, but they do get the easy option (if listening to Coachwhip for ten minutes can be called easy).

Are Xenos allowed on Freeports? I honestly don't know because Xenos have a terrorist ID and all.

I honestly wouldn't mind listening to Xenos propaganda, it would make my trade run more fun. However I would be peeved if another pirate came along and tried to pirate me during the speech.

Yes xenos are allowed on freeports, we are neutral to both Zoners and the IMG as we rely on the local freeports for fuel and food.
As for other pirates well all of Liberty's pirates are cardi junkies so we don't like em, they'll be told to bugger off if they try to pirate someone who's opted for the spiel.

I fly a fully iff'd and id zoner, registered with the council of zoners. It's a trader, I run lucrative routes. I don't mount weapons, no point. If someone chooses to interrupt the lanes they get a greeting. If they shoot me up and get aggressive they get an earful of complaints about how outraged I am at the treatment and look at how upset my navigator is now and how we became zoners to get from this oppressive kind of stuff and its a real drag them getting all governMENTAL on us. If they treat me like a neutral and are nice about it and ask for a donation they get a reasonable donation. Sometimes if I'm feeling good and I know the ship Ill give them a bit even when they say pass, because its tough being a pirate and we're all friends in freeports right and you can buy me a beer next time and whats a few hundred thou between friends.
