Originally a custom refit of the Series Z Sabre's design meant to better handle the harsh environments and even harsher inhabitants of the Edge Worlds, the Lich quickly grew popular among the many mercenaries, freelancers, and pirates that frequent the Omicrons. Sensing an opportunity to make a foray into the open ship market, the fledgling R1 Shiplines patented the refit design and began manufacturing it on a large scale. While heavier and slower than the Series Z Sabre, the R1 Lich boasts a more durable frame, thicker armor, more efficient power supply, and larger cargo hold, allowing it to survive the Edge for longer periods than any other openly available fighter.
