The spectacular vistas of the Sigma-19 system -- said by many to be among the most beautiful in all of Sirius -- did not go unnoticed by the tourist industry for long, and in 791 AS Orbital Spa and Cruise Lines stationed its state-of-the-art luxury liner Hawaii in the system. An incredibly popular destination, the Hawaii has operated at near capacity almost from the beginning. The location of the ship outside the policed boundaries of the colonies is also rumored to be part of the attraction, and much of the popularity of the Hawaii lies in the implied promise of forbidden fruit available to those who can afford a ticket.

[832 AS] On the Nose

NEW TOKYO -- 832 AS -- Multiple tips from unknown sources have aided, upon investigation, in exposing the abuse of Cardamine between numerous members of the Kusari Keiretsu. Intense work hours have pushed both the youths and the senior citizens towards the consumption of the drug, which is more readily available than ever before, partially due to the foreigner presence upon Roppongi Station.

However, with the recent Farmers Alliance bombing on Roppongi seemingly linked to the sudden increase in Cardamine use among Kusari's businessmen, New Tokyo's residents have expressed sympathy towards the perpetrators, speculating that the Alliance's blatant admission to such a vicious act is not to be taken as a boast or a threat, but as a sign that they will not allow their friends and families to be preyed upon by the greed of corporations that, "do not belong anywhere near our home", said Katsuyori Ichihara, Samura Industries financial consultant, and survivor of the Roppongi attack. "I don't blame them", Mr. Ichihara continued, "that vile drug destroys families."

Due to recent events, Samura Industries has taken it upon itself to act as a substitute for Interspace Commerce within the insurance market and many citizens have already expressed gratitude to Samura and their willingness to provide more financially preferable contracts than what the old management offered.

[832 AS] A Foul Wind

KYUSHU -- 833 AS -- Ravaged by the worst cyclonic storm in recorded history, Kyushu's bustling food production has been thrown into total disarray. Local authorities are struggling to address the infrastructure damage that has been caused by not only the heavy rain, but strong wind and violently surging tide. Even with the storm having passed and dissipated, the full extent of damage is unknown. Missing persons reports are flowing in and the police finds itself too preoccupied with rising unrest given the looming threat of a critical food shortage. What was otherwise expected to be a bountiful harvest now only offers grim tidings. In an uncharacteristic move, many of the Farmers Collectives are putting out calls for aid and promising generous dividends to people with the necessary resources and expertise. This is likely the only way the local economy will recover, faced with dwindling stockpiles an power outages should the measures of the Collectives and the Government fail.

[831 AS/747 AGS] Gate Corps Clash Over 'Blackout'!

ABBEVILLE -- 831 AS/747 AGS -- EFL's 'Resilience Taskforce' today reported its findings on The Blackout, claiming to have gathered forensic evidence that proved the cause as Ageira negligence. A spokesperson claimed that the destruction of the Dublin jump gate by Molly separatists had created a hyperspace feedback loop that was propagated and amplified through the Ageira gate network.

Ageira disputed this finding in their own press release, calling EFL 'fantasists' and countering that their own scientists had narrowed the cause to a rare 'hypernova' stellar event that originated outside the Sirius sector. Both corporations claim that network-wide hardware safeguards have been implemented that would prevent a similar occurrence in the future. Independent researchers have sharply criticized the corporate announcements, accusing both of self-interested misdirection.

Professor Sophia Nagel from Heisenberg Research Station called EFL's accusation 'incoherent' and the hypernova explanation 'nonsense' that did not explain the characteristics of the 'Blackout Pulse'. Despite multiple different Pulse recordings being widely disseminated across the neural net, public efforts have so far failed to triangulate its source.

[831 AS] Jump Hole Upheaval Causes Chaos

HEISENBERG -- 831 AS -- Jump holes across Sirius have become increasingly volatile and chaotic over the last year, with Professor Sophia Nagel from the Heisenberg Research Station linking the unusual phenomena to the Pulse. The Pulse was an unprecedented blast of hyperspace energy that was detected immediately prior to last year's jump gate Blackout.

Professor Nagel and her team are certain the Pulse originated from outside Sirius, but are otherwise no closer to identifying its source or mitigating a future Blackout event. "Following the Blackout, we began to see immediate signs of jump hole destabilization in multiple different regions, with many ultimately falling out of phase alignment altogether", she commented. The dramatic upending of Sirius' jump hole network has already prompted many groups to abandon stations and withdraw from systems that appear to risk being cut off.

While months-long trips between the stars are possible thanks to the Liberty Engine and many centuries of innovation, few ships are designed or provisioned to make such arduous journeys. Those who were displaced by Sirius' redrawn map hope that system connections will return, while adventurers and explorers rush to discover new routes.

[831 AS/747 AGS] 'Blackout' Causes Jump Network Fail

MANHATTAN -- 831 AS/747 AGS -- Two days ago Jump Gates failed simultaneously across Sirius, freezing commerce and neural net access across the sector. When the network resumed 31 hours later, restored communications broke the news of Bretonia's loss of the Dublin system. This twin shock has plunged the market into chaos, prompting fears of sector-wide economic recessions. Interspace estimates indicate that the stoppage alone caused billions of credits in losses. Gallia immediately accused Liberty of culpability for the outage, claiming the destruction of Dublin's jump gate instigated a cascading failure in faulty Ageira infrastructure. Ageira has sharply refuted the allegation, claiming such a systemic effect would be physically impossible. Independent researchers in Cologne and the Edge Worlds have also announced that a hyperspace pulse of unprecedented strength was detected moments before The Blackout, with data about 'The Pulse' being widely shared across the neural net in recent days. House authorities have remained tight lipped, refusing to comment on their own observatories' data.

Rumors

Orbital Spa and Cruise
  • This ship is lavishly furnished with works of art and the finest quality appointments. Orbital Spa and Cruise is dedicated to supplying our guests the finest that life has to offer. Luxury Goods are brought here all the way from Manhattan. More recently, the opening of the Gallic market has allowed us access to some fine Holo Sculptures as well.

  • This ship is outside of House space, so the things that go on here might not be completely legal. The Sigma systems are claimed by the Gas Miners Guild, but they usually keep to themselves and their H-Fuel producing business. Government morality can be quite bothersome at times. We provide relief from the burdens of society. Whatever your desire, we will provide it here - no questions asked.

  • Security caught a thief among our guests. Thankfully, all the stolen items have been returned to their rightful owners. The unfortunate criminal will be delivered to the proper authorities in Honshu tomorrow. Within a few weeks she will be working the Hydrocarbon mines of the Fuchu Ring. That thief was lucky he didn't steal from any of our Hogosha or Corsair guests - he'd not have made it off the ship if he had. Not alive anyway.

  • Have you ever seen the fiery blooming "blossoms" of the Kikka Dust Cloud? They are quite extraordinary, yet no one knows where they come from or how they form. I can book you for one of our pleasure skiff runs to that area if you'd like to see them.

  • The convergence of the Crow and Edge Nebula in this system makes for one of the most incredible space vistas in all of Sirius. Have you been to our observation deck? It is truly a magnificent sight. Every once in a while we are treated to a small skirmish between opposing factions in this sector - quite marvelous.

  • The passengers aboard this ship are the crème de la crème of Kusari society. They expect this liner to be appointed with the finest foods, and it is. We offer some of the finest foods Sirius can offer. From the fisheries of Junyo to the customized-to-desire flavors produced by Synth Foods at Stuttgart, whichever the client prefers, we can offer.

  • Truth be told, it makes Orbital Spa a little uneasy to have Hogosha and Corsairs conducting their Artifact business deals here aboard our vessel. But they do pay handsomely to be aboard and their presence is exciting for our guests, even if occasionally one of our esteemed clientele says the wrong thing to a Corsair and gets shot for it. Still, having an agreement with the Corsairs means we can coexist with them here, which makes operating here a lot safer for us.

  • Many guests are drawn here because they enjoy carousing with dangerous criminals like Hogosha and Corsairs. Besides, wouldn't you like to sit down at one of our bars and have a drink sitting next to a dangerous killer, knowing all the while that he is there to enjoy himself just as you are?

  • One of our pleasure skiffs near the Donryu Cloud was attacked and destroyed this morning by Outcasts. It is an unfortunate occurrence, but the allure of danger is one of the many things that draws the crowds from Kusari. Our guests are fully aware of the risks of Sigma space.

Bounty Hunters Guild
  • If you are trying to get closer to the Corsairs and their space, then I suggest you find the Jump Hole they use to enter this system from Sigma-17. The Hole is on the southern side of the Kikka Dust Cloud. That is the Hole they drag all their Artifacts through to sell to the Hogosha.

  • This is a good system to work in. I've got easy access to Corsairs and Outcasts. I just have to bag a few of either to afford a ticket to stay aboard this ship as an honored guest. Orbital keeps me around in case the pirates get a little too aggressive. Most of their bounties are on Outcasts - doesn't keep me from keeping an eye out for important Corsair targets. Those savages enjoy the luxuaries on this ship as much as the next person, so the successful ones of them - the ones with the biggest price on their head - often end up here.

  • This system is the entry point for Outcasts into this part of space. Mostly they are trying to run their drugs from the Donryu Cloud to the Hiryu Cloud. The Donryu hides the Jump Hole to Omicron Beta and Eta, and the Hiryu hides the Jump Holes to Honshu, Okinawa and Sigma-13.

Corsairs
  • We sell the Artifacts directly to the Hogosha. There was a time when we went through the GMG, but it is always more profitable to cut out the middleman. That has annoyed those Gas Miners a lot, but that's not my problem. I brought my Artifacts from Alcudia, in Omicron Lambda.

  • I passed out drunk at the observation deck bar a few nights ago - too many of those deadly Omnistellar Gullet Blasters I guess. While I was out someone stole my knife, probably some dirty tourist looking for a souvenir. Whoever took that knife is dead; it has been in my family for six generations.

  • The Alien Artifacts we sell to the Hogosha here come mostly from Crete, but they can be found on a lot of planetary fragments and asteroids as well. We don't know how they got there, and frankly, don't care. These trinkets have no value to us, but they are worth their weight in gold in the houses. You could make a fortune picking up a full load at cost from Crete, then delivering them to any of the Houses. We won't stop you if you want to do that.

Gas Miners Guild
  • We are not at all surprised the Hogosha turned on us once we broke with Samura. It is a well known fact that the Hogosha and Samura have very strong ties. Samura maintains a front of legality, but their practises are as underhanded as those of the Hogosha themselves. I've heared rumors of them putting some kind of addictive substance in the fish food at Junyo. Needless to say, I'm not touching any of the foods sold on this ship, that came from there.

  • Orbital Spa's reluctance to remove these Hogosha and Corsair criminals from this ship is troubling. I do not think that Orbital realises that they are here by our say-so. Sigma space is GMG space, something Rheinland learned the hard way. If their excuse is not wanting to anger the Corsairs, then they should not put one of their ships in the middle of a Corsair smuggling route.

  • We supply this base with many basics. We also like to keep an eye on the Hogosha and Corsair dealings here. The Corsairs betrayed us when they decided to rather deal with our enemies then us. In turn, we have banned the movement of artifacts through GMG space. In practise, this means the Corsairs are our enemies now.

Hogosha
  • Yesterday, the Corsair ship Menorca was ambushed and destroyed by the Outcasts somewhere in the Gikka Dust Field. The Corsairs have just begun the search for the wreckage. If you are lucky, you may be able to beat them to it and grab the Artifact load for yourself.

  • The Artifacts that the Corsairs bring to this base are highly prized on New Tokyo's black market. They are smuggled in by Hogosha operatives through the Jump Hole in this system to Honshu. From Honshu our people use the Jump Hole there that leads straight into New Tokyo. That is the Hogosha Artifact smuggling route. It is a long flight, but usually uneventful once you get past the Outcasts. The Blood Dragons are the only ones who can really challenge us in Kusari, and their numbers are too few to be hunting empty space for us.

  • I should like to thank whomever came up with the idea of conducting business here. It is profitable for everyone involved. The Corsairs benefit from having a place where they can sell their Artifacts with relative ease. The Hogosha benefit from having easy access to them. Orbital Spa benefits from the safety that dealing with both groups offers - especially when the Outcasts try something. The only ones left pouting are the GMG, but they have themselves to thank for that.

  • It was best for both the Corsairs and the Hogosha to cut the GMG out of our business dealings. It is true that the GMG are closer to our people than the Corsairs, but "money makes friends of strangers" as the saying goes. The reverse is also true - the GMG favoring Kishiro over Samura has not earned them many new friends in Kusari.
