Wichter Station was constructed in orbit of Saigon's moon Kauthara throughout the mid-820s, intended to serve as a more secluded facility to service and construct spacecraft for ALG's own use, and for commercial sale. The Sigma-15 system also serves as a valuable stepping stone for ALG into the uncontrolled worlds of the Sigmas and Omicrons, and the remote location was chosen deliberately so that the base could conduct business with entities unwelcome in Rheinland but friendly to ALG, among them the Gas Miners Guild, the Bundschuh, and according to some rumors even the Order.

Following the outbreak of the Rheinland Civil War and the resulting loss of Dortmund and occupation of Wuppertal, Wichter became the company's corporate headquarters. Its defenses were shored up and it became host to most of ALG's remaining security assets, since its loss would likely have meant the end of the company.

Since the end of the war, alertness and security have relaxed somewhat at Wichter, though a degree of paranoia is still evident in its personnel.

[831 AS/747 AGS] Gate Corps Clash Over 'Blackout'!

ABBEVILLE -- 831 AS/747 AGS -- EFL's 'Resilience Taskforce' today reported its findings on The Blackout, claiming to have gathered forensic evidence that proved the cause as Ageira negligence. A spokesperson claimed that the destruction of the Dublin jump gate by Molly separatists had created a hyperspace feedback loop that was propagated and amplified through the Ageira gate network.

Ageira disputed this finding in their own press release, calling EFL 'fantasists' and countering that their own scientists had narrowed the cause to a rare 'hypernova' stellar event that originated outside the Sirius sector. Both corporations claim that network-wide hardware safeguards have been implemented that would prevent a similar occurrence in the future. Independent researchers have sharply criticized the corporate announcements, accusing both of self-interested misdirection.

Professor Sophia Nagel from Heisenberg Research Station called EFL's accusation 'incoherent' and the hypernova explanation 'nonsense' that did not explain the characteristics of the 'Blackout Pulse'. Despite multiple different Pulse recordings being widely disseminated across the neural net, public efforts have so far failed to triangulate its source.

[831 AS/747 AGS] 'Blackout' Causes Jump Network Fail

MANHATTAN -- 831 AS/747 AGS -- Two days ago Jump Gates failed simultaneously across Sirius, freezing commerce and neural net access across the sector. When the network resumed 31 hours later, restored communications broke the news of Bretonia's loss of the Dublin system. This twin shock has plunged the market into chaos, prompting fears of sector-wide economic recessions. Interspace estimates indicate that the stoppage alone caused billions of credits in losses. Gallia immediately accused Liberty of culpability for the outage, claiming the destruction of Dublin's jump gate instigated a cascading failure in faulty Ageira infrastructure. Ageira has sharply refuted the allegation, claiming such a systemic effect would be physically impossible. Independent researchers in Cologne and the Edge Worlds have also announced that a hyperspace pulse of unprecedented strength was detected moments before The Blackout, with data about 'The Pulse' being widely shared across the neural net in recent days. House authorities have remained tight lipped, refusing to comment on their own observatories' data.

Rumors

ALG Waste Disposal
  • Wichter is ALG's headquarters. It wasn't planned that way, but management had to move here when we blew up Dortmund at the start of the civil war. So if things seem a little chaotic around here, that's why - the station had to be urgently expanded to hold more administrative offices, and also some of Dortmund's smelting equipment, the stuff we managed to save before we scuttled the place. It's been a few years now, but we're still catching up on re-organizing.

  • Not impressed by the food and drinks selection here, huh? That's the price you pay for building a secluded station away from the trade networks of the house. Our supply situation is a lot trickier out here, since not that many suppliers are willing to leave the lanes for a low-profit food or consumer goods run. We get most of our stuff from the Freeport, the Zoners are used to supplying off-the-grid places like this.

  • This is primarily a ship-building station. We build mostly fighters and cargo ships for our own use and to sell commercially. Because we're so far from Rheinland's eyes, we can sell to some of the organizations that aren't welcome in the house, especially the Bundschuh. One design that we practically never sell outside the company though is the HWDU-430, the "Golem". It's a heavy transport specially designed for hazardous materials, and its design specifications are top secret. Don't bother asking for one if you aren't an employee.

  • You might be wondering why there's so many combat ships and personnel stationed here. Well, when we lost Dortmund and Wuppertal in the civil war, this was our last holdout around Rheinland. So if Wichter had fallen, it would have been the end for ALG. Things are quieter now, the war's over, and we got Wuppertal back. But we're definitely not letting our guard down - you never know when the Unioners or the Corsairs decide to attack, and Rheinland sure isn't going to be sending ships this far out to assist us. We have to rely on ourselves out here.

Gas Miners Guild
  • I make regular runs here from our stations in the Crow, we sell H-fuel and buy ship hull panels. It's usually a quiet trip, although sometimes Kruger will harass us if they think they can get away with it. But if the Guild and ALG blow up a Kruger ship deep in the clouds, who's going to report it?

  • ALG is the only company in Rheinland the Gas Miners Guild has good relations with. The 80-years-war might have been a long time ago, but if there was any hope of normalizing relations with Rheinland, the Sigma war put an end to that. They will never accept that the Crow's resources belong to us. But we do not care for their ambitions, we have already proven that to them twice.

Bundschuh
  • ALG isn't like the other big Rheinland corps. They believe in democracy in Rheinland, and were willing to go to war for it. Our ships fought the monarchists side-by-side in the civil war, and our pilots celebrated victories and lamented our losses together. The new government might be more democratic than what the monarchists wanted, but we are in no way willing to accept their rule, and it doesn't seem like ALG will be regaining their good standing either. Maybe we will end up fighting together again.

  • This is an important station for us, since they have the facilities and personnel to service our larger ships. We can work on our snubcraft well enough at our bases, but if our transports or gunships need repairs, we bring them to Wichter. The police isn't paid well enough to patrol this far out, so ALG doesn't have to worry about getting in trouble for letting us dock.
