His hands gripped the control stick, steadying the ship as his impulse engines pulled him closer to the the two ships ahead. He checked and double checked his scanners, reading the details again, it was the little things that made all the difference in a situation such as this.
The scanners showed a pair of red targets, small ships, most likely bombers or fighters, displayed as flashing red lights to warn him of their presence.
One of the two ships was know as the Werewolf, a heavy ship, sluggish yet dangerous to any traders unlucky enough to fall prey to it's guns.
It's partner was a Barghest, a super-heavy bomber, one of the finest joint creations of the Mollys and Rogues, a formidable foe for a trader, and equally as dangerous to Capital Vessels if a small group are encountered.
Jack's hands shook slightly, and he struggled to suppress the nervous feeling coming over him. He was outnumbered, two to one, but he had the upperhand, with his newly commissioned Liberty Navy Gunboat, one of the finest vessels to patrol Liberty space, and he was lucky enough to be assigned captain of this one.
A gunboat like this usually housed a crew of atleast four, but for some reason he found himself alone in the cockpit, staring nervously at the empty chairs. He hadn't served in the Liberty Navy before, infact, he signed up just yesterday. It was rare that such an inexperienced pilot would be allowed to use such a craft, but Jack had utmost confidence in the Liberty Navy Secondary Fleet Command.
This was it, the Rogues had turned their attention to him, the Trader had paid and was now leaving the area. The impulse of the three ships pulled them closer together still, a cold sweat trickled down the side of his head, dripping off his skin and splashing gently on an empty can of Mountain Dew.
He cleared his throat, silently praying to his god as he configured his Comms, setting them to broadcast across the system. He would most likely need backup if things went wrong, the Rogues rarely spared ripe prey, so he was allowing his comrades in the Navy to hear his words.
Jack opened his mouth, preparing to transmit his powerful words to this enemies, words to insight fear into their skins, rattle their bones and let them know he intended to strike them out of the sky, he was here to protect Liberty, and these Rogues threatened it.
He spoke, his words rolling through the system, touching the hearts of his people, and letting the Rogues know he intended to show no mercy.
"engaging enemie" he spoke.
The End.
