Well, honestly I am also missing fair play with a Freighter. If the Cruiser or Battleship has Solaris Turrets and the Player just feels like it he can just rip the ship apart.

Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt" is not a demand.
'Trade Vessel.' That means Transports, Liners, and Freighters.
You must still make a demand from Liners and Freighters, just as you do transports. However, a capship can attack a freighter, can not attack a transport or liner.

This seems to be the logical application of the rules, given the admin confirmation in the other thread and the actual rule.
That then makes me wonder- can a battleship make demands of a freighter, since it technically is allowed to engage them but they cannot be engaged without a demand? Or, (it's been awhile since I've closely examined a battleship capable guard ID), is the "can pirate (not allowed for cruisers or battleships)" clause still around, thus preventing most battleships from firing on freighters outside of defending themselves or their friends (the latter not being possible against transports, as I understand the rule).

But then
Quote:Can only pirate in a gunboat or smaller (cruisers and battleships may only demand allied pilots)
Navy Guard]Can only demand allied pilots and destroy ships if they refuse to hand them over [/quote]

IDs state anything above a gunboat can't make a demand except for allied pilots.
Rules state that cruisers and battleships may not demand anything from Liners and Transports only. Thus, there is a conflict where the IDs and Rules contradict each other. In which case we revert to the rule where IDs override server rules.
In effect, you cannot demand anything except for; Pilots, RP demands (such as leave X system). Demanding fines or contraband is not allowed for a capship doing so to a freighter.
However, if the capship has a fighter with it, the fighter may make the demand, with the capship backing him up. This works against Freighters, which capships can attack. This is not allowed to be done against Liners or Transports.
Get a bomber. Caps are nothing but target practice if a wing of pirates in bombers come by. A cruiser can fairly easily be killed by fighters with Minis. Essentially, caps are useless for anything but fleet combat. You can disrupt the trader, and break it's lanes, because they are not attacks, as per the engagement rules. So, you can slow the trader, but other than that, there's nothing you can do. How about we get a fighter, and if we see a battlegroup coming along, then we get our cap. Everyone's happy.
