Info about that is in the Faction ID's in the game, mostly because of balance, Cruisers overpower Freighters, things like that, though theres nothing from you pirating NPC's in a cruiser.

Diablo, pirating in a liner armed with gunboat weapons and carrying a cruiser shield is tantamount to pretty
much the same thing. Its just exploiting a bug still existing with the liner, which of course is a transport ship
not a cruiser or a heavily overarmed gunboat.
Obviously this still needs addressing, as it seems to be the ship to have now, along with the bomber. Just
because you can, doesn't mean you have to do it ...

Thats a gunboat though, not a liner shielded as a cruiser, and armed as a gunboat.
The liner should have its transport shield and weapons in place, or an upgrade suitable for its status as a
transport, not a capship.

Of course, though the word 'Gunboat' does not appear in the statistics for the liner. I believe its description
is that of a 'Transport' and should therefore be armed and shielded as such.
Its current use by many as a 'Light Cruiser' is therefore, how shall I put it ... While not actually cheating,
bending the rules to gain an advantage ... Win at all costs, I feel.
