This is a good thing. Ive been here for a fair few years and seen this community go from 200 players to what we have now due to set messages and other things. Alot of members talk about K'Hara having to need /setmsgs for there roleplay but that is not the case. If you go back a few years when /setmsgs where not a thing K'Hara players would have to write out there roleplay. This makes it challenging which K'Hara is one of the unique roleplay factions which should be a challenge. But over recent months ive seen players join and then get access to caps almost straight away and then just use setmsgs. This isnt helping them players understanding the challenge of nom talk. But there are ways of doing it without setmsgs but you need to use your brain and be clever. You could decloak 10k roughly from the target and roleplay even if liberty this works. There is no real excuse for K'Hara players as they are a unique and special faction with a unique form of roleplay and you should be able to roleplay a K'Hara morph without setmsgs to be allowed to fly a larger ship... so please stop using this setmsgs was the way i roleplay excuse.
But good job with this spazzy i have used setmsgs myself in the past and i found it to be a lazy way to roleplay. It is near impossible to say the same thing every single time unless it is a greetings. But i gaurentee a large majority of you wont say the same words to the same person on different days. Set messages effected this community and i am glad this is a test. I honestly hope it goes well. Will stop people being lazy and stop this being a /1 /2 engage. Will force people to roleplay like a human and not a robot
This is going to be particularly hard for pirates and I expect a return to 4 mil or die, because pirates now will have to hold a trader (who has no rp requirement) while they type out their message, which I remember from lots of experience is hard for someone who can't type fast.

I run into people during a trade run - they don't even greet back. I run into PvP - nomore "honor", nomore gentleman attitude. Just being told how pathetic a certain performance was, how terrible it looked. And thats ooRP, so an attack on a personal level, and there is no inRP other than "look what we have here" and blasters going off.
You see fellow navy stand idly by in their capships while pirates gang up on one of their navy brothers in a snub in the middle of NY to "keep the fight fair". Pirates in New York, the capital of liberty space, shouldnt expect a fair fight when they are bold enough to sit near a cap ship of the navy.
The server commands and "playground" we are provided are not the problem - the people are.
I can see your frustration, I've only been playing for around a year and I have noticed a massive difference. On so many occasions I try to encourage some of the players, except they don't listen. That's the thing. Recently with the fact people are fighting over unfairness in pvp fight really puts stress when you sit by and spectate a match just because somebody wants it fair, not to mention the cockiness of roleplay afterwards and just runs off. In the original freelancer you see ships all combining their forces to try and stop you, this is what freelancer should be rather than petty fights over stupid stuff like this. If you're going to become sour over such a fact then you should try to compromise and organise a fair fight where possible. And Especially for a game as old as this, I expect people to do better. True, I have a feeling people won't find my point as they've been playing for far longer than I have, but it's not just the newer players who cause the trouble but a few older ones as well ( and with pandamonium going around lately, retaliations are not faring well)
I will openly admit here that I've done Probbably 4 errors in the past 3 weeks that could Probbably have gotten me sanctioned. But 3 of those were mistakes Were something I never knew that could happen, and the fourth was thinking without doing. I'm surprised I'm still being given so many chances. With the game constantly changing its getting a challenge to remember all the rules and trying to improve my roleplay at the same time as I like to keep within a simple vocabulary rather than using all the other words that others are going by.
I have a particular friend who is not very good at roleplay ( neither am I, still trying) so in most cases I try to roleplay for him. And another person I've met who just does not do the tow lines at all despite how much I warn him. The first person is improving slowly as I, but the other one needs roleplay training so maybe we could work on that. Not everybody is used to roleplay.
Also with the fact that people don't reply, I am one of them as well. Normally under the fact that I have to go do something so I just sit by and let the autopilot do the job.
I've Probbably went on and on over silly things, but it's my opinion on the matter, so in most cases I agree with you.
with all that ha s been happening lately, this is a good idea to try for now. And a great way to improve my typing speed based on the removal of setmsg
Lots of players and not native English speakers or typers , they will be forced to improvise , and what is easiest way to improvise ? Fast and short message !
I for once need 30 secunds to type message like "Hello , this is Navy ship , please hold for routine scan , and don't try to flee or dock" , 20 sec if i don't check for spell mistakes that will be certain if i don't check .
I predict lots more messages like : "5 m of dye" .
Or instead set message "Greetings , this is Royal Navy ship , please stand by for routine scan" it will be "hold or die"
Instead set message "since you failed to compile with our demands we are forced to open fire" it will be "you fle?" followed by "yo die then"
And please people , Server dint become toxic because of set messages but because of toxic players .

Trust me , there is no fair play in New York from Navy Side :
Whenever i take my Rouge Cruiser for a ride there i was never attacked by just one Capital ship .
Navy Capitals sits still and watch snubs fight not because of fairness but because you cant kill snub with a capital except if snub pilot is a complete newbie or if you get 1% lucky razor double shoot kill .
the only issue i have with this is char ship names, and as im not a fast typer, it can take ages just to say hello to a char that has about 20 different letters and symbols!!!, the only set msg i have is /1 Hello there #t
then i start to slowly chat, so removing this feature for me, will probably me just flying past saying helo

Tell you what, people used to play the game w/o setmsgs and everything was fine. Also people, learn to type...
I've been watching alot of the detractors of this move and I must say. It's rather weak reasoning. there seems to be worries that there will be a decreased amount of RP done due to a lack of set-messages, I shall remind folks here of the Rule Clarification for Rule 3.6.
Code:
- Ideally at least 2 sentences of RP before engaging, with a minimum of 10 seconds before firing from your first RP message. Just RP, and make sure the opposing person has enough time to respond
You are expected to uphold this conduct and those who fail to do so are as such punished in accordance to the rules. So if you are attacked in such a manner and have not had a chance to respond I highly recommend screenshots be taken (timestamps are helpful when doing so) and a sanction report be filed if you are unable to settle it ingame civilly.
The removal of the set-msgs is not an open invitation to spew out '2mordai' 'no? ok die scum'. if you as a pirate don't get your way. It will infact help cut down the cookie-cutter 'RP' that folks use when they encounter somebody and force them to be more creative.
I will only have one problem, and that will be to remember my charnames xD
I mostly used setmsgs for like Name: Greetings.
At least this helped me alot not to forget my charname
