@NOVA-5 Stop with this nonsense. If you are trying to find loose threads to tug on because you are bored, might I suggest the youtube comment section.
The reason why @"Projekt Lerdi" was slapped so hard was not the result of this thread, but rather this thread is the result of his punishment. Only recently we came off from a long discussion regarding fixing the Discovery Freelancer community from an ingame perspective before we start advertising the server again - this includes changes the ModDB as well as a mass-email to registered addresses in the form of a newsletter - a paid service, might I add.
But before this happens, we need to figure out who are we advertising this community to, because with the current state of things, Discovery has been affected by the meme culture moreso than it should be healthy. Meme names highly discredit any notion of roleplay this server has and they are currently used not as something witty, but just for shock value that people do that. Well, it is about time to put an end to this nonsense.
Lead by example. Lerdi was smacked hard because he has been here for more than five years now and should know better than to create such characters. He simply took and broke the server rules that are clear-cut in this matter and he did it knowingly and fully straightforward. He was not a new player who made a mistake.
And so with that in mind we decided that it was time to reinforce the warning we gave a month ago regarding names. So yes we voted on pretty harshly and took and deleted his Recruit IDed Advanced Train that was docked on Rochester. His case was not harsh - it is going to be the new norm, but we are giving you a seven day head start to go through your accounts and set things in order. Help us prepare Disco to be advertised to other players.
Nothing is more discouraging than taking a look at the server live chat feed and seeing a rank 23 commenting on some of our names and questioning the nature of this server.
We are trying to set our priorities straight. Even if it means that I have to give up my beloved LNS-Pacific.Fister in the process. If you want to see our numbers climb again, you will have to put some effort into it as well, and quite frankly, considering the amount that is asked from you as a community member, it is really not a damn lot, alright?
The community has shrunk heavily since what we'd like to call the golden days of Disco in terms of player count. But the amount of stupidity that it generates, as evidenced by the last two months worth of player reports and even player requests at times, has certainly not. And that has to change NOW if you want to retain the existing playerbase for the project to even feel worth investing into by new players.
