The way I see it is that the only effect this will have on the Corsairs is that the Bounty Hunters will be in the Omegas, with different colours and gear.
The gameplay won't likely alter much.
True, Zig's motives, I'm not fully sold on, but then again, he could just fly as a Bounty Hunter and PvP the hell out of Corsairs, right?
One can push reasonable arguments into the realms of craziness quite easily.
Yes, the Corsairs are powerful. Yes, the Bretonians are weakened by the war with Kusari. Yes, Corsairs do have the resources to take on Bretonia (though these resources are busy elsewhere)
But...rewind. "Corsairs don't want Cambridge?"
The wildest dream of any Corsair would be able to have a stake in a paradise like Cambridge or Stuttgart. It's the ultimate dream of the Corsair empire. Something the Corsairs would NEVER turn their nose up at.
It just so happens that we have the Wilde business, Hessians becoming ever more powerful, the BHG gaining a physical foothold (translate: base) in the deep Omicrons and last but not least, the complete collapse of the Corsair political system along with all co-operation.
That's not to say I believe that a group of Bretonian zealots could provide even a slight inconvenience to the empire in RP. If they were particularly irritating, the Corsairs might have a Bretonian base destroyed or a planet bombed; preferably with lots of civilian casualties to make their displeasure known.
Perhaps though, a Corsair invasion of Bretonia IS long overdue.
