Junkers collect and re-purpose junk, they don't FLY it. The Recycler is an aberration...
...that's like lobbying for Order/Bounty Hunter/LSF ships to incorporate blue, see-through parts "because they are experimenting with Nomad tech"...

Then where do you expect all of our ships are from? We dont own any planets, we have no mining operations on any planets, and the only real mining operation we do have is in PR in a nearly burnt out asteroid field.
The junkers build their own ships at vieques shipyard. These ships are constructed with:
-Scrap metal collected from debris fields. This metal is smelted, purified, and used to construct ship frames and hulls.
-Parts found among debris fields from other ships. If you find an engine as a junker, you fix it up and either sell it to a buyer, or use it yourself for your own ship. Same with weapons, ship systems, equipment, so on and so forth.
The junkers are based on living off of the debris fields, we dont go out onto the ship market and buy shiny new parts - it's too expensive, and why waste the cash when you can fix up a part you've found in space? We're called salvagers for a reason - we do sell a lot of what we find on the black market, but only if it's something we dont want to use for ourselves.
I discussed this issue with Jinx once when I was trying to get a Junker space superiority fighter made (ways back when, which ultimately turned into the salvager) and what I always wanted was a color scheme not dissimilar from the current debris clouds.
So essentially a black/grey.
Of course this design was a sort of hotrod type deal, so I had Motorcycles in mind;)
Quote:Besides, who said you make most of the money/parts scrapping? You can get a nice, second-hand hauler for the price of a few loads of cardi...
And that's where you're going beyond junker RP. Yes, junker players often smuggle cardi right down from malta, but as far as our canon RP goes, the only part junkers have in the cardamine trade is taking it from rochester to manhattan, as junker ships can get by the authorities with small loads of contraband. It doesnt make as much money as running a full adv train load of cardi from the source.
By canon RP, the junkers' primary source of income is derived from selling valuables they gain from salvage ops on the black market - weapons, armor, ship parts, etc. They repair these pieces and sell them to anyone that will buy, from independent pilots to criminals.
Cardamine smuggling, and to a far lesser extent artifact smuggling, plays a much lower key role in the junker lifestyle than they are portrayed on the server. The only reason we have junker ID'd/tagged smugglers taking cardi or artifacts from crete/malta to manhattan is because it's a powertrading route that makes cash quick, and they abuse the junker ID to get by without being pirated or attacked by lawfuls.

I wouldnt mind a grey engine effect, smokey lookin.
Tenacity, your post about junkers making ships out of junk is totally beyond canon rp, infact it has no basis in anything said in game.
What you basically said is the junker equivalent of an outcast saying "We have so much cardamine here on Malta. Why bother selling it for money and using the money to buy a ship, when we could just make a ship out of cardamine!"
Canon rp makes it abundantly clear that junkers have way more money than they know what to do with. They idea that they'd make ships out of junk is a completely player-created notion that doesn't really make sense, because as we can see, all our ships are horrible. that'll teach us.

Really? Last time I checked canon RP mentioned that the Junkers were at the bottom of the pyramid. Used by all and respected by no one, yet indispensable. They'd sit around on Buffalo whining about being kicked around and doing the hardest work for the least kickback, working the middleman job between cardi stockpiles and planetside consumers etc etc.
They didn't move beyond house borders.
They certainly weren't fabulously wealthy.
And they weren't in bed with Gallia.
All in all? Boring. Let's move on!
That being said, some Junker ships are hand built by loving gear heads. Some are spiffy jobs that folks who aint got the time nor inclination for patching things together, and all of the shades of grey come together to form a rich tapestry of story and art.
Keep yer fingers out of other people's canons. They're prone to go off.
