It certainly makes you a pirate.
I said how I'm acting towards Pirate ID - suspect, but not a target until proven guilty. That's a courtesy, I am not forced to act like that by rules. A common phrase to RP it out would be "You are a known pirate" - bacause that's pretty much what the ID is inRP.
Edit: I take the ID like that even when I'm not just attacking outright. Because my military officer won't kill somebody just because he knows he is a crook. He follows the law.
Indeed, and your military or police officer has to approach the Pirate ID differently from my DSE char as the Bretonia Police and BAF ID's don't specifically state you can 'actively hunt pirate ID's' like the DSE one does.
I've only been here a couple of months so I'm still trying to understand the nuances of the game, but I suspect that the rules on ID's have been considered very carefully and written as they are for specific reasons.
Whether to kill a pirate ID character on sight or not is up to the player spotting the pirate.
If it is your role play that you have not committed a crime that is fine.
You have done something wrong somewhere though to be labeled as a pirate.
There is no pvp violation being done.
When it comes to myself, if I see a pirate Id'd player hanging out next to a downed lane, he is a pirate committing piracy.
If I find him just drifting through space, I will not intercept, for me it all comes down to circumstance.
But having an independent pirate ID does not make you any safer than a Hacker or Rogue.
We put ID's on to show others what rules we follow and how we are seen.
Whether you like to admit it or not, others are within their right to treat you as your ID.
Don't have too high of an expectation for others to follow your RP.

à got pirated by the Banjo group. I think that Zoners went mad after few reports. Basicly, you will end up FR5'd pretty quickly. I'm not sure it's allowed anymore.

Exactly, depends on the context.
I have mentioned my sabre with pirate id and civy guns. Well, once I was just cruising, on my way to Coronado. By Riverside, I got stopped by 2 navy and 1 vigilante, who asked me to surender or get destroyed. A few lines later and pewpew....didn't really bother me, as I just thrusted away, but doesn't seem very roleplaysch to me.
There are circumstances, of course, where they are to be shot. I didn't mean the pirate id/freelancer iff as a shield or an excuse not to get shot at. It's just a different kind of roleplay that a rogue's or so on.

Kinda off-topic, but I think you've confused us with someone else. Banjos never used Zoner IFFs, we all had FL IFFs & Pirate IDs and 2milRdai'ed all that we saw... Now those were the fun times:nyam:
On-Topic: No it's completely ok and makes sense. (Not like anyone mentioned it in past 3 pages, ye?)
Per Cannon if you have a Pirate ID on your ship, you are to act like a pirate and others are free to treat you like a pirate. Meaning they can claim you are a known pirate without any evidence. They do not need any evidence to kill you, they merely need to role play it out then and there. You are free to claim you aren't a pirate also, seeing as that is what criminals usually do, play the innocent card. I know I've done it before.
As for people using the Zoner IFF with the generic IDs? Its perfectly acceptable. There are Zoner IFF, Pirate & Merc ID'd ships that I see at times. It basically means, they are Zoners but don't strictly follow core Zoner role play. Having those IDs also removes their ability to do certain things a Zoner could. Such as enforcing a NFZ or demanding Zoner pilots.
The reason we carry freelancer IFF and not no IFF (which would be far more appropriate) is because there is a bug in which if you have no IFF you IFF can change mid-flight. It has happened to me a few times both involving myself and others with the bug. Freelancer IFF avoids you accidentally having Hacker IFF and Indie ID... which is the equivilant to either getting ganked alone or being given the chance to run from an unfair fight (so long as you haven't pirated anyone)
But look at it from a pirates perspective... Mercs, pseudo-bounty hunters and those damned AIs etc often use freelancer IDs. So they appear green to us pirates. It works both ways
