The "Osiris" class Battleship has served the Order in many ocassions. The ship's supirior manuvarability and advanced technology has been irreplaceable to The Order in some of their missions , including the great Nomad war.But the years of service have given the ship their toll and it's design is getting older and the ship is no longer performing at The Order's level of expectations. That is why a new ship was needed to aid Order forces in efort to stop the ever growing technologies of the libertorians and the rich and powerfull Bounty Hunters. With cooperation from both Corsair and Zoner engeneers the "Ascendent" ship class was created.
Quote:Edit for Tenacity - Mait , the Zoners have NO enemies , why would they need a strong fighting ship ?
Zoners have to deal with nomads and wild, they assist the order occasionally in combat, and they've got high tensions with the outcasts and their allies, even though it hasnt come to open fighting yet.
You're right, they have fewer enemies and less need for combat capable vessels than anyone else... so why do they have an entire line of zoner-developed capships? Two versions of the battlestar, the zoner juggernaut, the zoner destroyer, the huntress cruiser (I think that one is zoner designed, anyway), etc. Why do they need all these capships if they have no enemies?
Truth is, EVERYONE hates zoners. They dont fight much because zoners tend to 'wuss' out and use money and influence to avoid combat, but they appear to have a large enough fleet and enough firepower along with it to conquer one of the weaker houses if they chose to do so, and they've got the order's support.
My point wasnt that they need or dont need combat viable ships though. My point was that a gunboat with only 4 turrets, if it doesnt have enough power capacity to constantly fire the best turrets in the game, will be extremely ineffective in all forms of pvp. Fact of the matter is that this game all boils down to pvp - We may call it an RP server, but without player combat the RP would be pointless.
I'll RP my gunboat like a stealth recon ship, not intended for heavy combat, but do you honestly think any liberty, nomad, BHG, or outcast player will heed that RP and not attack me? No. They'll ignore it entirely in the name of pvp whoring, and at that point I need to be able to defend myself.
So, while 4 turret hardpoints is horrid for most gunboats... this one could possibly be made effective if given higher energy capacity than the others, and much more manuverability.
Ок , I realy want this to be a "For-The-Order-topic" , not a Zoner one.
And the reason for all the capital ships the Zoners have. I see two reasons.
1/ Zoners use those massive and powerfull ships to enforce their neutrality. Those ships are what keep possible enemies at bay.If the zoners become no weapon hippies , they will be wiped out pretty easily.
2/ Those ships are used ONLY for defence of home systems/ Freeports.
Ahem, ever hear of a little threat called the Harveys. An enginiosly planned faction that uses large ships to hunt Zoners, secifically Zoners (well, and anyone who angers them enough to warrant "harvesting")
Some say that he is allergic to a fungus found only between the toes of Corsairs,
and that he is oblivious to 98% of Liberty Law. All we know is... He's called the Busdriver!

No realy , please speak on the given topic here.
Jazz - there is a theaty being build between the two factions. The Harvester ships are no longer KoS and I am sure that the Zoner Council will do what ever is needed to keep their neutrality.
The Order has:
1x Heavy Fighter
1x Very Heavy Fighter
1x Battleship
No light fighter is needed, we have a large selection of fighters such as the Talon's as it is.
To add, getting an Order cruiser for example would mean alot more indie order ships which I'm not a fan off, and we'll most likely have some zoners or corsairs flying Order ships which should not happen. The Osiris is a small battleship. I say beef it up a little and screw an Order cruiser. Gunboat? Well, is it possible to make Zoner/Order gunboat that both factions developed?

//In other words...why not ?
And what of this Swiss ?
I realy thing that the Order shuild have their own ship designs.
It is actually pretty natural to leave the Osiris design and create something entirely made for Order purposses.I'm sure that we have everything we need to creat our own ship line. As for the indies , if they RP correctly and aid our couse , why not give them a chance to shine among our ranks? I realy don't think that giving the Order it's own ship line and design will make millions of indies join us to whore in the new ships. If that was so , they could do that now , using Corsair/Zoner Cruisers and such. But the need for an advanced and formidabble capital ship is indeed a fact. I don't see the Order being underpowered by Liberty. But fact still remains that Liberty have a Dread and a Carrier , both of wich are stronger then the Osiris and the BHG have formiddable BS. Everyway I look at the matter , I see that the most technologicly advanced faction , actually has pretty normal and even standart equipment and ships.
Sorry but unless you give it enough power regen to use like 4 cerberus turrets constantly or something... 4 turrets wont even be enough to kill a lot of npc's out there. The minimum any gunboat here has is 6, and even that can be hard sometimes due to limited firing arcs.
Nope...i gave it 4 turrets as requested...
There is two more unused hardpoints where turrets can be placed, but then that ship will be larger and much slower then it is imagined now...decision is up to community and Jinx...not me
However that ship has mine slot (which only one other GB has other then that)...mines can be helpful against fighters and bombers...
So if Jinx wishes to change any aspect of that ship she is free to do so...
Alright, I guess you've won me over... to some point.
The Order has the best tech out there so getting a great large ship for Order purposes would be useful, but for some reason the whole indie thing bothers me because most won't rp it right.
Maybe beef up the Osiris a little and introduce another order cruiser/destroyer/battleship?
But no more fighters, bomber is on the way, and gunboat I'm not to convinced about when we have our allies who have gunboats.
The 'indie' thing can be a problem, but even my future order character will be one. Black squadron, in my eyes, is more of a fighter group than one that would employ any capships, except for maybe a single osiris as a command ship.
Quote:Well, is it possible to make Zoner/Order gunboat that both factions developed?
That's exactly the backstory i'm using for the zoner gunboat. It's a recently developed ship built by zoners, the order bought a few and refitted them with some experimental stealth technology so they could be used as recon ships - my character's gunboat being the first to have it's refit finished. So, in a sense, it's a joint project between zoners and the order... The order took interest due to the ship's relatively small size and manuverability, which were fitting of a reconaissance vessel (moreso than their battleships, and with more survivability in the edge worlds than fighters would have).

Yea I talked to jinx about it just now in PM's. If it has enough manuverability and energy capacity/regen, I dont mind the four turret limitation. It'll certainly be harder to kill fighters (though, as you mentioned, the mines could help make up for that) - but outfitting it with 2 infernos / 2 razors would make it decent against capships, not quite as good as a bomber for firepower, but with more shielding/armor.
The thing i'm worried about is the balancing. With four 'normal' turrets (basic/order/cerberus turrets) - the ship will be severely underpowered for NPC missions, even with six to eight gb turrets on my liberty GB hitting the enemies, it was hard taking some NPC's down. If the zoner GB doesnt have enough agility to warrant the firepower loss, it will be ineffective in a lot of areas. Likewise, since it has fewer turret hardpoints it needs to use more powerful turrets to make up for firepower loss (such as infernos/razors) - but those turrets suck a huge amount of energy, and are nearly worthless against fighters... so to be effective it would need high enough energy capacity to chain fire four of those; and I believe they use 70k energy per shot. Most gunboats only use 1-2 turrets of that type, mixed with normal turrets, so they dont have the energy issues.
Quote:But no more fighters, bomber is on the way, and gunboat I'm not to convinced about when we have our allies who have gunboats.
Agreed, for the most part the order is a fighter-faction. With the addition of a good bomber (sehkmet, I believe is what they're calling it), the order will have decently improved firepower against enemy capships, and for gunboats and up they can always use their allies' ships.
