Genetic engineering is, at least, purposeful.
But, why?
Also, Skynet or Hal are not robots...
see, a robot is a discrete thing.
Skynet or hal are collectives, and as such, would probably just turn the planet int a rather large computer....more living space, you see.
BTW, cockroaches do it by being everywhere.
and being capable of reproducing asexually.
which is good, given a nuclear war.
not so good when stuck on a planet that is totally covered in lethal radiation.
They aren't radiation proof.

genetic engineering on apes because they are somewhat close to humans. the reason it was being done was to try to test ways of reducing effects caused by radiation. the mission was a success in terms of Apes surviving radiation even though the humans doing the test didn't
the robot collective could have been left to direct the robots. maybe it's only recently became self aware and work at "remodeling" the planet has just started.
With all due respect.. Let me show you a tiny bit of what's going on.
You are arguing about Radiation being unable to modify human cells.
We have Phantoms on this server..
We have Nomads on this server..
We have Mariku.Keiko (not flaming you, just using you as an example) who can kill a man with her eyes.
I mean, this 'world' isn't really realistic, won't you agree? Not to speak about FL physics which has nothing to do with real world.
We also have Luthor Corp - FL supermen..
We also have a drug that makes you 'smarter', which is at the time impossible.
Maybe say that those Chimps are infested by Nomads? But, Nomads failed to control them.
Zoners are still researching those Chimps to find out what made them resilient to Nomad infestation.
As for the robots, it's fine as it is.

Maybe say that radiation levels dropped over the years and were only say on surface of planets, so life as we know it continued underground(thats how actually shops on those planets look like) After radiation level dropped, apes that coexisted with zoners (maybe even inbreed, everything is possible) and now they are ape looking beings with human or human-like inteligence that crawled out and found all structures left by zoners before escape to underground.
As for robots, they have preserved human brain in jar that gives them commands and programs them to do specific jobs.

Actually, plenty of stimulants can increase concentration and lower reaction times, making you effectively smarter. There's actually a big issue at universities just now with students abusing substances to help them study and, of course, getting it wrong and ending up in hospital.

What happened? Documentation?
New radiation meds, what?
Huge plot hole there.
i would say that the scientist started to die from the radiation of the planet and left/killed by nomads. the experiment was in the final stages and was completed through a few generations of breeding after the humans had left/died

Correct, though it's not actually making you 'smarter'. Higher concentration has nothing to do with Intelligence.
A very intelligent man can still have problems with concentration, and vice versa.
'Faster learning' isn't actually learning at all, it just boosts your memory a bit while you'r under influence.
After two-three days you forget most of the things you 'learned'. You actually learned less then with usual methods.
So, that is why it's forbidden. Because it's used for cheating on tests.
If it really helped you learn something faster, then it wouldn't be illegal.
However, if it only helps you to pass the exam - then it's bad for society and future.
I think we agree on that one.
However, I just used Cardamine as an example for something that doesn't exist. I didn't say it's impossible to exist one day.
