People playing Minecraft would've been playing Minecraft instead of Freelancer anyway. The only difference is that now they're predominantly playing it with other Discovery people instead of different random folks from the internet.
I doubt this'll be an apocalyptic final nail type situation.
Give it a week; the pop of interest will peter out and everything will be back to normal.
aside from Disco, myself and a buncha the Cross guys tend to play other games with eachother on the side when theres little to do in Freelancer. That particular timeslot is usually occupied by Team Fortress 2 or whatever "flavor of the week" game we happen to be on at the time. Minecraft is just taking that slot for us for now.
I'm not saying we'll fully up and abandon Minecraft either, theres just only so much to do in any given game that eventually, we've seen it all and done it all.

I believe this was a best-of-intentions bad idea, but am willing to let the statistics do the talking. The MC server went up around the time of the spike above the # in week 32.
There isn't alot that can be gleaned from this data yet, except that maybe some of the people who are saying that they wouldn't be playing FL instead of MC anyways aren't really telling us the truth. It may be very early days and this will probably bounce back some (I really hope it does), but here is where it is at right now. The next week or two will show us the real trend.

It isn't just people from the Freelancer playerbase that play it too, it appears that some older players came back to play on the server as well.
Although, I do somewhat agree that it'll have an effect on the server - but as mentioned before, the hype and the enjoyment of the game will die down by a week or so, people will get bored.
