Greetings
I am looking to upgrade my PC this time I'm looking at a new CPU. My motherboard is a AMD based one it seems and this may be a stupid question but I how can you tell if it supports AMD X2 or any dual core.
The revision is ok. It does not affect greatly in your case.
I checked the ECS' site and with the newest BIOS update it can handle Athlon X2 processors.
But they might cost a lot. They don't make anymore those Socket 754 processors, so depending on the price it might just not be worth it. Even if you can buy one.
Ya I goggled Socket 754 CPUs. Best one you can get is a AMD Athlon 64 3700+ no dual cores it seems.
But luckily some local computer stores have nice upgrade packages (Dual core, 1GB DDR2, New Mobo) for less then 200. I might look into them once I get the money.

I would grab a completely new motherboard. More value for the money.
