i can imagine this is an old question. But i was trying my best in forum and other searchfunctions and i cant really find anything about it. I guess its my foult as a forums newbie in general so i am sorry if i bore you ...just skip.
At one hand i would like to fly any ship i like to try them out spending my recently hard earned cash without having to swich my chars all the time, or make new chars and delete them again after a while sticking to my favourite ID while doing so. I'd like to feel like cash is power/influence and opens all doors of the different shiptraders for me while i am inventing some explenations for rp how i got this or that ship. On the other hand i would understand if there are rule or rp-restrictions. I don't want to start a discussion, just want to know how things actually are at the moment.
So straight away:
Is there a thread/tutorial/rulesection and i just dont find it about which id can use which ship and which not? Did the comunity came to a general agreement? are there written or unwritten rules about it? If yes pls link it for me. If no, tell me pls.
At the bottom of each ID is a small list of what kind of ships they can fly, from fighters to battleships.
But if you, for example fly a Liberty Guardian on a Molly ID you will not get a lot of power core recharged. Despite that seeming very out of roleplay.
Is "very out of roleplay" against rules? I have the feeling it is at least reason to be hunted by some serious RP Players who have a sensible and easy to break sense of immersion.
Yesterday i got asked why i am flying as Cryer ID a BH-Gunboat (90% power-output)... i answered i worked as BH before and it fits the job... this question made me think about the immersion of others.
Did i make, for example in my case "very out of RP" decision to fly a BH Gunboat as Cryer ID even if it is only reduced to 90% power output? Or starts "very out of RP" with Power output lower than 75% means the ship is not even apearing in the dropdown when checking the Mactan Network, like Skoraks example with the Molly ID? Just to know where is the "border" to "very out of RP" if the "border" can be defined.

Many corporations have BH tech or lawful tech in general. Liberty corporations occasionally get stuff from the Liberty Navy (guns, Guardians, even lib gunboats), Rheinland corps from RM and so on. However, the key part is that those are player factions representing an NPC faction that's in the game. Those player faction developed their reputation over time and helped the said military or BHG and the latter returned them the favor by granting tech.
Your example is similar. Although you may have been a BH pilot once, the BHG wouldn't let you take it away based on that fact only. Don't get me wrong, most people won't care about your concern, but if BHG ever finds you, they'll hate you and most likely shoot you for stealing their tech. Your faction (or you as an individual) must be approved by BHG to fly their tech. They can shoot you for stolen tech everywhere in Sirius.
As for the RP itself, it's fine and much better than what's been seen here. It's certainly not "very out of RP". It's up to you whether you want to stay clean or keep the gunboat and risk meeting other bounty hunters in-game.

No problem. Oh and don't forget that you can freely fly ships and use tech of the ID you're using regardless of who you are. Generic ships can be freely used by everyone (Sirius-wide civilian and Border Worlds ships on the tech chart).
If you don't want to be on bad terms with BHG, you can either switch the gunboat to a civilian one or write them a transmission here, explaining your situation. Tell them who you are, what you did for them and why should they allow you to keep the ship.
The BH Gunboat was the first in its Class i was trying out, to evade trouble with Playerfactions while testing ships which i may not want to keep i guess i will make characters with a to the ship fitting ID until i know which Ship i like to keep and may use with Cryer ID, after that i will contact the related Playerfaction if needed. Until that moment i will swich to a Generic ship with my Cryer char. Thx again!
//EDIT: I just found your thread about Mod-Singleplayer Antonio, all nice explained. To test the more expensive ships just perfect, i thought the mod works onley MP. Good to know...
Another useful way to try out ships is in open singleplayer. It's a nice way to quickly test out how a ship handles and what it's weapon placements/arcs are like (Very important in caps). You can use commands to jump around. The main ones you'll be using are 'rep = 1' 'cash XXXX' and 'base <name>'. That will set your reputation to full allied with all factions, give you XXXX cash, and teleport you to the specified base (do be careful with spelling and capitals/punctuation), where you can buy the ship/weapons you want to test.
Thank you JorgeRyan for the informations and explenation. True, this commands will be really useful for that matter.
Beside that i just decided to do extended ships-testing, like in single player with commands, a bit later to not spoil my fun, i am still far from having explored all systems. :-)
