Ok, the fabulous Windows <strike>Crap</strike> Care One trial for my new laptop has expired, so I downloaded some new free software to protect my computer. Apparently one of them doesn't like Freelancer connecting to external servers. When I double-click on the server, it comes up immediately with the "I'm sorry, a connection could not be established to that server..." message.
We can play this like a game of Cluedo: Was it
A) Avira AntiVir Personal in the game's code with the Anti-Virus gun?
B) Spybot-Search and Destroy in the system registry with the Anti-Malware hammer?
C) COMODO Firewall in the network configuration with the Anti-Freelancer...brick?
Basically, I have no idea about things like this and I heard that people were having similar trouble with AVG...
Mmm, I suspected the Firewall, but when I "disable" it (ie: Go into its settings and turn it off), the exact same thing happens. Maybe its not fully disabling or something...
' Wrote:I would hazard a guess at Comodo, it does funny things ... Had to take it off one or two other machines.
Ah bugger. It seemed like such a good Firewall program. Any suggestions for a free firewall that works just as good? Naturally it'd have to be compatible with Freelancer...
Zonealarm is a psycho firewall! My buddy was telling me about it and he said it locked everything out and made LANing incredibly hard, (but im going off a person who thought that a CRT screen was actually LCD they just didn't have the technology to make them flat back then. *facepalm*)
I'd maybe steer clear of that one unless you can get a more reliable review from someone.
