Capship battles in Discovery mod are near perfect. But there's something that has been bothering me for quite some time.
Especially when I'm showing my videos to friends of mine who don't play Freenlancer, they're like: Awesome but then WTF?.
For example:
You've been firing at enemy capital ship for several minutes. When it finally goes critical, you're preparing for your final shot when suddenly - there you go, it's full on everything again. It's like playing a Bloody MARIO or something.
I consider this to be seriously uncool and one of a few last flaws that these battles have(In fact, this is a major one to me). It sort of....... harmes the movie-ish atmosphere.
EDIT: After a short discussion with other forum members, I've changed my mind and adjusted the original idea.
So, I'm proposing these changes:
- removing all nanobots <strike>and shield batteries</strike> from capital ships
- increasing the amount of hull hitpoints <strike>and shield capacity</strike> to counter their removal.
<strike>To keep everything nicely balanced:
- slightly increasing the delay between shield restorations
- decreasing shield regeneration rate.</strike>
I dont think getting rid of bats bots is a good idea. I can see bats being able to re-charge shields instantly, that makes sense, but instan hul regeneration, that's a little more far fetched IMHO. If it could be made so bots restored hull slowly, now that would be awesome.
I actually like the idea. I think it'd be neat if cap ships got a whole lot more hull and then lost their ability to use bots. Shields I can understand, but thinking about it, it makes more sence... logically.
Actually, I'm kind of conflicted. It would be cool and might make things more interesting, but the problem is that there IS a legitimate precedent for damage control teams and bilge pumps on real capital ships - B/B is the FL equivalent. It also makes it more difficult for caps to act as fighter support, since they can offer b/b support to smaller fighters.

I think we keep the bots/batts, but make the regen not instant.
make the bots slowly take effect, not too slow, but faster on little ships as there is less surface area and less parts. so if your fast enough with a SNAC you can take it out, or if you are fast enough with a razor.
as for huuge capships, really small bots dont work so they probably have larger repair bots that would take longer to work, but for a small ship the bots would be beneath the surface ready to regen .

I'm not a fan of endless fighter combat either. Even without resupplying, it can last for decades. Dodge FTW!
