I could be mistaken, but in 4.84, there was a commodity (i believe prisoners) who's infocard stated that they were put in small containment units with internal lifesupport, allowing them to be transported in just about any ship.
also, if you RP in your train that you have your slaves in selfcontaining pods, then it's better for your RP when you jettison them, cause then they can survive. Your not going to tell me that the slaveliner has enough escapepods for all your slaves.

Right, that's the reason why prisoners use two cargo slots, while slaves use only one.

Thanks to everyone.
I know, there are no restrictions on what cargo the pirate train can carry. I could probably even carry passengers or vips, but I don`t do that, cause I think they wouldn`t feel comfortable in those rusty barrels.
Ok, as some of you mentioned, there may be life support on the pirate train, or that the prisonners bring their own life support. Works for me, prisonners and slaves probably won`t complain.

I can't. But I have been flying one for some time, and the lengthy journeys I embark on have given me ample time to stare at its construction. The pirate train's tanks are large metal cylinders that aren't connected to the main part of this ship. (This being the rear.) Logically, I would assume that they do not have life support in them, not only because they're not connected to the pressurized part of the ship - but because shipping H-Fuel and other needed supplies of that sort to capital ships and bases (as in noted in the train's infocard) doesn't exactly require life support in the cargo holds.
One could, as Zelot said, say that they would put minimal life support in it, but as I said, in RP that would require carrying a little bit of oxygen. He does raise a very good point in any case.
But, in summary for my thoughts on this matter -
Slaves should generally be shipped with something with an internal cargo bay.
Slave liners and pirate transports are probably what you should use.
Modifications could be made to a pirate train...
But a slave liner would be a better choice overall, for somewhat obvious reasons.
I just want to be within RP and I was looking for a reason to go on carrying prisonners and slaves in my pirate train. I think I got it now, thanks.
Right, the slave liner would be the perfect ship, but I don`t think I`ll change ships to make it more comfortable for salves or prisonners. If those guys bring their own life support, I`m fine. It may be a good idea to carry some additional oxygen and water on a long journey, dead Slaves don`t sell good.
Carrying VIP`s in a pirate train is allowed by the rules but it doesn`t look like good roleplaying to me, just my personal opinion.
Okay I'm always moaning about human cargo in transports and nonhuman cargo in liners, but I think if exceptions are going to exist, it's slaves and slave liners. I mean, we've seen those people trafficking scenes on the news and those pictures of the layouts of slave ships from back in the day. Stuff is horrific and you can be assured people carrying slaves will invest the exact minimum they need to keep most of them alive.
They sure will. As I said I placed a {SU} Faction preference on an internal bay. The reasons for that is cheaper containment cells, and we don't have to spend money on putting them under, just food. It also grants a slaver the ability to weed out those with iron wills and throw them out the airlock, thus helping to break the others. (Something that you cannot due while sedated.)
There is nothing wrong with Pirate Train as a slave transport, and adding life support is certainly plausible, although potentially expensive. To the P-Train's benefit it does have armor plating around it pods, which can help adsorb radiation and weapons fire, which other trains do not.
