Hypothetically speaking, I, in my cruiser, am working as an escort for a convoy of lawful traders. A transport with an unlawful ID/IFF combo attempts to raid the transports.
Hypothetically, I have explained to the pirate the transports "are with me" and should be left alone. This is ignored. The cruiser is Junker Guard IFF / Special OP ID.

Well I guess this would depend on the Special RP terms...
But mostly you cannot fire on the transport, a Carrier got sanctioned for it the other day.
Of course, if your within one of the exceptions... Then it's allowed.
EDIT: Lol, about 4 people ninja'd at once? Awesome...

Am I able to fire on the pirate transport?
Been discussed before, and no, you can't.
You can impose yourself between the traders and the pirate trying to take the fire for them, so they can run and escape. But you can NOT fire back on him, untill he has taken down your shields to less than 50 % (Pretty hard for a Pir Trans to do), which would make it an attack on you, and thereby invoking the self defence rule.
But again, YOU can NOT fire back at him, UNTILL he has taken your shields down that low, no matter if he manages to blow up all the traders you escort in the Cruiser.
If the Pir-Transport pilot has any common sense, he'll just circle you and fire on the traders again, and you can NOT do anything about it.
Cruisers as escorts suck. Use GB or smaller for escort duties.

I, too, understand the rule and why it's in place - to prevent traders from being unfairly disadvantaged against lolwutters. But I believe that if a player does not heed a fair and reasonable warning to verily sod off from the captain of the cruiser, he should be fair game.:mellow:
Anyway, that knocks my idea in the head... or.. makes it a lot harder. Maybe I should find a way to get my hands on a gunboat instead...

This has been said before...
It's to prevent ganking, transports couldn't EVER run from a Cruiser or bigger, just FAR too weak for that.
So it applies to pirates in transports aswell.
Under normal circumstances, you are NOT allowed to shoot the pirating transport in your cruiser.
The exceptions, of course, are:
Quote:6.7 Attacking transports, liners or demanding cargo from the same is not allowed for cruisers and battleships.
Exceptions to this rule are:
a) Terrorist, Nomad, Wild, Phantom ID players;
b) LSF or Liberty Navy Guard vessels operating within Zone 21 or Alaska;
c) Order Guard vessels operating within Alaska or Omicron Minor;
d) Blood Dragon Guard vessels within Chugoku;
e) Corsair Guard vessels within Omicron Gamma;
f) Outcast Guard vessels within Omicron Alpha;
g) Guard ID players in their -own- associated Guard system.
h) Special OP players within the guidelines of their approved RP.
Traders whom are attacked in these areas may be pursued and destroyed beyond them.
However - and this is where FRAPS is your friend - there is ONE way you can 'take out' the pirate. Rule 5.2 allows you to defend yourself if you are attacked first - which means that you have to physically interdict your ship between the pirate and the transport, and basically let him take your shields down. If you can back up with proof that the pirate was stupid enough to attack YOU - then you may defend yourself (which would probably help improve the species by removing that Darwin award winner).
