If you've just gone to the wiki and found that a page has inaccurate information, missing information, or even that a page or desired content doesn't exist, what should you do?
If you answered "Post a request on the forum asking for someone to fix it", please quickly move the palm of your hand into your face, trying to make the loudest impact possible, then change your answer.
If you answered "Check the wiki discussion page or individual talk page to see if the content is intentionally changed, and fix it yourself if not", I thank you sincerely.
To make it easier for those helpful people who just don't have a lot of time to look up new information, I've written some code that makes wikitext pages for many common page types, taking all the info from the ini files, and allows you to basically copy and paste to update the page. Don't just copy and paste without looking over the page though, you'll need to manually add appropriate links and make sure you're not overwriting extra information that someone else may have added (like a review, extra pictures, comments, etc).
To take advantage of this tool, look on the left side of every page on the wiki in the box that says "wiki editor tools", and you'll see a link to "Wiki Code Generator" at the bottom. Click that, and see if what you want to update is in the list of content. If so, have fun! (without deleting someone else's work) If not, sorry, but at least some things are there.
If you get a message when trying to use a specific function that it is 'locked', that's because the other editors and I are trying to figure out some formatting or content issues that impact that content type, and we don't want to have to fix more than we need to.
If all this fails, is too complicated, or you generally feel like being unhelpful, there is one more thing you really should check before complaining about page content: The version number at the bottom in the "Categories" panel. This shows you what version of the mod the page has been verified to be accurate for. If it reads "V485", then it is only accurate for the first version of 4.85. If it reads "V4850" it is accurate for the first update, which is no longer current. If it reads "V4.85.2.1" it is accurate (according to ini data and/or ingame verification) for the most recent update #2, which is what the 24/7 server is running as of December 2nd, 2009.
If the page says V4.85.2.1, and you feel that the information is wrong, please check the talk page to see if the content is intentional, and if not, do bring it up in this forum!
If the page says another version number, or has no version number at all, then it is very possibly out of date, in which case you can fix it yourself, leave a message on the wiki TODO page, or fix it yourself. Yes I said that twice, because that's how wikis work. You can fix it yourself if you know it to be out of date and you have better information. If you can't fix it yourself, leave a message on the wiki TODO page.
This forum is for discussion about the wiki: how it is managed, what content should be included, and stuff like that. Threads about stuff being out of date (when you know the newer information) just makes you look lazy. While it may get one of us to do said update, rest assured we think less of you. (Unless you're one of the admins, in which case you have even less free time than those of us who edit this, and we know it. Please use the TODO page though)
