Hello everybody I have a problem here that is drving me crazy.
I recently started to play Freelancer on Vista...
Firstly, I couldn't even connect to the server, but I removed McAfee and so on and that solved the problem. Everything worked perfectly, no disconnects, lag or whatsoever.
But lately I keep getting randomly disconnected. Today it was pretty bad, though: The first time I was disconnected after about 30 mins, then after 10 secs, and then after a few minutes. And the worst thing about it was that it happened during a fight....sorry for that Colonials.
It can't be a problem of my connection, I have a very fast broadband connection and I can connect perfectly to the internet everytime. And I don't think it's because of Vista, I've been playing on it since 3 weeks and this problem only showed up a few days ago. I don't know what to do next, please help me to fix this problem.
Edit: Looks like it's working fine at the moment...2 hours without disconnect. Strange
Well first off, get rid of Vista. Garbage OS, go buy Windows 7 or get it from another *cough* source.
But other than that, check your windows firewall. Make sure it isn't interfering with the program itself. If that's not the problem tell us if you're running through a router or hub and what kind of modem you're using.
Are you using Broadband or DSL? Wireless?
Throw me some more information and I may be able to help you.
Well, the windows firewall is fully deactivated (even in services.msc), so that's not the problem.
I am running thorugh a Belkin N Wireless Router and I am using broadband cable connection. (No I do not use wireless internet)
The frustrating part is that sometimes, after it disconnects I can't even log on the char because he gets disconnected after a few secs.
I had a similar problem when running VMWare. The VMware network drivers would cause FL to randomly disconnect. I never figured out why but when I removed them the problem went away.

Hmm I have none of those installed.
What I noticed recently is that those disconnects happen mostly when I enter a system with none (or few) players. And everytime I entered Dublin, it always happened, and when I think disconnecting me wasn't enough, it even won't let me log in with my char because I get disconnected after a few secs (like I said, it happened only in Dublin so far...), so the char gets completely useless and I can only delete it.
Well, I have windows 7 now. But it's still the same. In the first week I had Windows 7 everything was okay, I didn't get disconnected.
But after 2 weeks everything became worse, and now it's the same as with Windows Vista. What is that problem? It's ruining my whole fun and I'm really thinking of quitting Disco because of it.....
As mentioned before, Vista is a bad OS. With that being said, assume all things are vistas fault when you have issues with anything(even if you're running a mac or other OS).
I suggest trying the following things:
1: run freelancer in safemode for vista, see how that works out. if you dont get disconnected, do the following:
A: start your computer up and hold down your left shift key the whole time to stop anything auto running in the background.
B: disable all your services you don't need nor want.
Can you tell me your connection type? (DSL, Cable, Dial-up..hahahaha i crack me up)
then tell me specific things like are you connecting via a wireless NIC or hardwire to your modem/router.
Well...good luck. I did all this and more to fix other peoples problems (friends, online gaming friends, etc.), and either one of these can be the fix.
send me a private msg if you need further help, i don't know if i will run across this thread again should you need me.
