As some of you might know, I am running FL on Ubuntu + Wine. Everything works so far, except some XML encoding problem. I got the latest revision of the Discovery Mod and unpacked everything into the appropriate directories with root rights.
Now the problem is, that whenever I log on the Disco 24/7 Server I get the red message: Bad Installation: You will be kicked.
Can somebody please give me a hint how to fix that?

The client side anticheat isn't designed to work on UNIX as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So, you'll just have to use windows for now unfortunately.
This is the second time I've heard of Freelancer being played on Ubuntu. The first time was on Eagle Utopia, which I believe, is running FLAC's client.

The client side anticheat mechanisms appearently aren't allowed to read items that they should be allowed to read, under that installation scenario.
You need to check whether permissions are inherited by child processes started by applications run under wine.
Easiest way to eliminate the problem, is to keep a dual boot cutdown XP installation or a VM image for Virtual box or similar VT tech for the FL experience while utilizing *buntu as the main environment.

Hmmm friend of mine is getting this same issue but on Windows 7. A permissions issue perhaps? Windows 7 sure does seem to do a lot of permissions checks for just about anything when I remote desktop his PC>
