Something just crossed my rather inconsistent mind. Why not have missions involving the transport of goods?
Hear me out.
At the mission start, you are given a destination, and the mission cargo is 'transported/spawned' into your cargo hold, from there, you take it to its destination and get paid. This is a more peaceful mission contract, you get reputation for your company or smuggling ring, and you get some more money. You could also use these mission routes in conjunction with your own cargo, to further boost your profits.
This idea will help teach new players some basic and well used trade routes, while giving them a nice way to ease into the game without dealing with lagtastic NPC's and low profit trade runs.
How the pay would work I'd say depends on the amount that he mission cargo takes in the hold, but I don't know if thats possible.
This is just a concept idea, and I'm unsure if its doable. Thoughts?
You'd have to make it so either you are trading useless cargo, or have the route locked in or something. Otherwise, I'll just take a gold ore trading mission in Dublin and head over to New Berlin. 5000 x Gold Ore = Profit
I've always thought this idea was a good one otherwise.
This was always the type of mission FL lacked, compared to other space sims.
Obviously it's fighter based engine wasn't really suited for this kind of thing.
But I would LOVE to see this in game. Perhaps have an identical commodoty, that is worth nothing for the missions.
It would make much more sense for the corporations to be sending their Freighters and Transports on trade runs, not patrols XD
Problem comes in when the new player is cargo-pirated by someone unaware they are on a mission. Either
A) The new player refuses to turn over the cargo = "BOOM", mission fail.
B) The new player hands over the cargo = Mission Fail.
And on the more popular trade routes? That will happen...a lot.
